However, california was the pioneer in making any amount of marijuana for any use - and growing it - legal. This led the way for other states to improve upon their fragile attempt. The movement achieved what it intended, to break the legality barrier. The two laws did not address sales but kept it coop based. It was a magnificent start that in hindsight could have been much better performed. Feds interceeded at their own peril and we are beginning to see the consequences. Wa and Co will have a much less difficult time as a result. I believe you will see a marijuana as wine law proposed in their next major election cycle.
The feds have a choice now, they can slam those states and risk political disruption,they can ignore the states, and risk political backlash, or they can adjust the schedule and wait.
Let's see what they do.

I propose letting the people buy/grow/whatever the fuck they want.
You can buy a bottle of liquor, drink it all in one go and go out and be an idiot...totally legal.
Yet you want to keep sales of cannabis illegal, when likely the first thing a cannabis user will do after picking up is go home/the park/etc, smoke out and chill in peace.
Your position on sales of cannabis is woefully misguided, everyone disagrees with you and yet for some reason you continue to maintain its the "best way".
Fuck you and your best way, just let the people smoke.

On Tuesday, voters in California rejected a proposal to legalize marijuana for people over the age of 21. Proposition 19 lost 54% to 46%, with 11 of the state’s 58 counties voting in favor and 47 voting against. What may appear surprising to many people is that three of the counties where a majority of voters opposed legalization were Humboldt County, Mendocino County and Trinity County, an area, known as the “Emerald Triangle,” that is most dependent on marijuana as a crop. Yes, it’s true…many marijuana growers voted against legalization.
Ted Kogon, a longtime Humboldt advocate of legalizing marijuana, opposed Proposition 19 because “it did not include a provision to release all people who have been jailed for non-violent marijuana-related offenses.”
Others argued that when marijuana is legalized, large corporations will move in and squeeze out small growers, as has happened with more traditional agricultural crops. And some simply see it as a threat to their economic livelihood: illegal substances bring a larger profit margin than legal ones. The wholesale price of marijuana is expected to drop by almost two-thirds with legalization.

There are many in that emerald triangle who are already grousing and claiming the end of the world is nigh because they can't get 5k an lb for their product any more. The harvest season is upon them and they feel lucky to be getting 2.5k and it seems that they are taking their troubles to the trimmers by agreeing to pay less this year than ever before. Most would rather have things as they are - illegal, and brave "helicopter season" as it has become a game where few actually go to jail, they just lose their generators and equipment and sometimes wind up buying it back at auction.

Fastest way to get commercial sales legalized is to make it legal to possess and grow illegal to sell.
Once you get legal critical mass on that it is only a matter of time before monsanto gets involved.
also making it legal to grow and possess illegal to sell keeps the government out of it.
