need some advice on butter making please

So, we are new to making cannabis butter and I've done some research online and I see that most everywhere, people use cheesecloth to strain... This sounds very painful when a person has bad arthritis in their hands.

I have a recipe that I got from a friend that is quite different, but sounds much easier, so I thought I would ask you experts here your opinion on this, because I can't find anyone else talking about it..

Use a crock pot and put about 18 sticks of butter (obviously adjust depending on how much you want to make) and then buy a small "mesh bag" (which I cannot find anywhere). He told us it's something that could be found in a standard store laundry dept., that women use them to wash dedicates in.
Then, put the trimmings in the mesh bag and put it in with the butter in the crock pot and cook on low for about 18-24 hours.
When done, take bag out, throw out trimmings, wash the bag and it can be used again.

So, has anyone done this? And if so, where would I find this bag?

It seemed like a really easy way to make butter, but I would value your feedback on this.

Also, I have read that the butter can then be frozen? I wanted to confirm this with you also..

thanks in advance,

Butter can be frozen for about 6 months or so if I recal

buy a potato ricer to squeeze the mmj, I make oil in large batches now and what a PITA to hand squeeze it esp when its warm too.

Yes, you can make it that way, and it will work fine so long as the bag is entirely submersed in your melted butter.

This isn't exactly "rocket science"

Basically, you just need to cook the buds in butter at a relatively low temp for a long period of time. The cannabinoids will dissolve in the butter, and you're done.

Exactly how you do that is up to you, but there is a BROAD margin for what "works" here (ie the extraction process will work at a wide variety of temperatures, and cooking times).

Yes, as you point out, the "hardest" part of the whole thing is getting the dregs out, and there is more than one way to do that.

Depending on how much you're making here, you may be able to pour through a strainer, and then press on the back with a tablespoon to squeeze out most of the remaining butter. I think you'll have an easier time of things if you accept that no matter what you do, when you're done, you'll have a little butter stuck to the dregs.

Yes, you can freeze the butter for long periods of time. I've used year-old frozen butter, and it was fine, but you probably do start to get some loss of quality in the butter itself after that. You shouldn't really see any appreciable loss of cannabinoid content, though.

FWIW.... the mesh bags your looking for can be found inside your wife's dresser drawers... (dont tell mine!! she is missing a few packs of panty hose)... shove the MMJ inside toss this into a crock pot... add oil... stir every 30 mins..

I use a potato ricer to strain out my butter when its done and it works pretty well. Its a lot less messy then cheese cloth and a hell of a lot faster.

decarb your material before extraction (we use vaporizor leftovers) We use a digital convection burner set to 250-260*F just under the point of the butter burning

try to use about 1 gram per portion... we make batches of 24 cookies or 24 carmels..... takes 2 sticks of butter and 21-24 grams ground up decarbed weed

melt butter... add weed... 30 mins later grab a pulp strainer and a plate with some water on it...drain and strain your cannabutter

let the cannabutter set/cool... then wash/clean your butter...remelt the cannabutter.. add some hot water stir/mix the two...the water will be brown the first cleaning.... repeat this process until water is clear (3-4 cleanings)

I spent 2 days looking locally for one... finally found one that is all metal and strong enough to squeeze the MMJ good.. I have already broken off the handles (cheap rubber handles) but it still works fine. I also find straining while it's warm helps with the squeezing

through my readings, ive come across that the cbn and thc are not opposites. and that both essentials are pulled during extraction. This is my second batch ever of oil base butter. Imma do crumb cake, and get feedback this week.

I dont have an issue using keif since it's just a matter of shaking it and adding it to the oil..

I dont like making hash that much and using it in medibles.. way too much work.. lol

I use water to cook my butter. That way it never burns and stays at a constant temp.

Its simple. Fill a pot (crock pot or large cast iron pot is best) half way with water. Put 2 or 3 sticks of butter in, and fill with leaf. Boil for several hours. Strain out weed with cheesecloth or those laundry bags or whatever. Then put pot of water/butter mix in the fridge to cool/separate for several hours and then use a spatchula or something to remove the solidified layer of ganja butter floating on top of the water. Dump nasty water down drain. Bake with butter and get high as fuck!

Getting hungrier by the second, glad too see IRU full of useful information as always.
I'm going to be making a batch with some friends (given any luck that is) so I'll post a result of my own should that occur.

I have tried this method as well.. what it comes down to for me is. this.. speed and potency.
I found no difference in a 4-6 hour cook vs a 24 hour cook vs a 12 hour cook then a 24 hour cook etc.. if I allow it to run past 4-6 hours its only due to laziness and not wanting to clean up the mess.. adding water to it just adds to the clean up and work involved and again saw no difference in potency etc..

this will be different for everyone.. I dont get the "high" feeling most of you folks are looking for or get... and I need to use about 12gs a day for the pain.

You will see folks posting that their methods dont work no matter what they do.. and their system may not work with edibles.. some folks can use the oil as a topical rub and get effects

keep trying different methods and see what ones work best for you.

Actually including water in the mix can increase potency, simply because you can also include more plant material. Think about it, with straight butter, you can only saturate about an ounce of material. If you add 4 cups of water to the mix you can also add a couple more ounces if material. The thc saturates only the butter and the water is saturated by everything else, and then you pour that crap off. The water also keeps the butter from getting over 212 degrees, so the butter won't burn. I get high as fuck off one cookie.
