I have a 6 foot light rail. I am currently using 2 400w hps. I have been wanting to upgrade to either 2 600w or 1 1000w light for the light mover. I personally think the plants will grow much better if the lights moved over the shaded areas to get more budsites to reach full maturity evenly. After the holidays I will be picking up the new lights.

What are you thoughts and experiences with them. 600w are more cost effiecient however 2 600w costs more than 1 1000w. My concern is that one light will take a while to get across the 6 ft rail when 2 600w will take care of 3 ft section each. How much of a difference in yeild and quality in using them?

2 600's is perfect. Covers a 4x8 area nicely. Get yourself a dedicated power box for them on a seperate circut and run them on 240 and you're money.

Where would one find a dedicated power box? I live in an apartment so I don't want to mess with it too much. I will be out of this place in 6 months anyways.

You'll find it hard to find a dedicated power box in an apartment, but good luck anyway, you're not worried abt the landlord or neighbors abt he smell or elect bill?

Oops, that won't work in an apt. Sorry about that. Power consumption will be an issue for you trying to upgrade lights. A single 15 amp circut can only handle one 1000 watt light, plus a few odds and ends. You'll be able to run the lights on one probably, but not much else without popping breakers.

Please do everyone in that building a major favor and be serious and careful about drawing power like this. One shortcut by a person who doesn't understand what the limitations of the available power are and people can die and lose everything they own from a fire. No lights on extension cords ever for any reason, I don't care if any dumbasses on here say they do it, it can and will start a cord fire.

I have a good filter heh, Electric bill is paid on time. They don't care as long as they are making the money. Plus I got a med card anyways :).

I thought so. My Uncle is an electrician, I know how to install an circuit and add old work panel box etc. i didn't realize that the dedicated and old work panel box is the same thing. I just won't do that in an apartment. Of course I don't plug the ballast in any extension cords. It is plugged straight in the wall. I have been here for nearly 2 years and all is good as long as I don't use the portable A/C. Plus I don't have an empty space in my panel anyways, btw my circuits are 20 amps so that shouldn't be a problem.

I have been thinking of having 1 400w and 1 600w light in that space. Early flower (first 4 weeks) under the 400 and finish off under the 600w. I have 5 x 10 space to work with.

Wait, in a 5x10 space? I would go 2 600's over 1 1000. I was thinking 2 600's or 2 1000's. You can run 2 600W setups off of a single 1000W magnetic ballast if you get "the splitter". 9.5A @ 120, 4.75A @ 240.

Unless you're growing giant indoor plants (4foot+), 2x 600s will give you better results. Better coverage and they have decent penetration. The ballasts and hoods will cost a bit more, but unless you fuck everything up, this should all pay for itself after the first harvest.

You can consider craigslist if you want cheap ballasts. If you need reflectors, just remember that bigger is not always better, and price does not always dictate quality.

Radiants score pretty well and are definitely affordable. Raptors and XXLs are such a PITA to work with....

yeah the girls will be in the in 4x8 space while the rest do the empty space is for the fans and ease of walking around to tend to my plants. I don't like the idea of plugging in 2 600w into 1 1k ballast. Isn't that over doing the ballast. 200 more watts than the ballast is.

Yeah I agree the cheaper, smaller reflectors do just fine or better. I use the lume wing reflectors. Been eyeing on the adjust a wing reflectors. I have never liked the hoods with glass, they are big and heavy and pointless for light movers. BTW, my plants are 2 to 3 ft because I am using 400s currently.
