At what plant height do you recommend starting the SCROG? I have two chambers going into my grow box. One for the mother which I will take clones from, and a flowering chamber obviously. Do you SCROG while they are vegging before flipping to flower, or only during the flowering cycle? I have never scrogged and this is the first scrog specific tutorial I've read thus far.
Thanks!
I determine the hight of my screens on a case by case basis, theres just so many variables that effect the screen hight.
- veg time
- stretch/ genetics
- number of plants/ grow space ratio
For example if I have more plants I might veg them less time and have the screen lower, if I have less plants I might veg them longer and put the screen higher.
Today I took some pictures of the canopy hight in both my flowering closets so you can see the difference. This first picture is from Flowering Closet #2, it has 6 plants (3 kush, 3 unknown) that have been in flower for 1 month. As you can see the screen is very low (<1ft above pots):
Here in Flower Closet #2 we have four OG Kush #18 plants that have only been in flower for 2 weeks. As you can see the screen is much much higher (>2ft above pots):
All of the plants in both pictures are in 5 gallon pots and both closets have 600 watt HPS lights, they both get the same everything. Anyways, my point is that if I had tried to plan a screen hight based on the specs I would have failed miserably for at least one of the two.
I am actually in the process of building my cabinet. Haven't started the grow, just starting the research process. The cabinet sq. footage is very small. Each chamber is 2ft x 1.5ft, height is just under 3ft. Strongly debating between CFL or ordering a Diamond series DS100 LED (100w). I am doing a DWC grow as that is what I know. The bucket will only hold 2 plants. I don't intend to go BIG by any means. Just debating on whether or not a SCROG is worth it for this small of a setup.
I wouldn't just say that scrog is worth it, id say its necessary. I just cant imagine any cannabis plants growing through maturity with only 3 feet of vert space without having been trained to grow horizontally. Especially when you consider the vert space used by the pots and the light. I hardly know anything about the grow you are planning, but based on what you have told me I would definitely recommend that you use lots of low stress training and a screen!
