I've been using CRF's for almost 3yrs now and over 2yrs using Osmocote products. The pancake girl in the post I made a few pages back is running on OC+ along with the veg plants. During flower I've been mixing OC+ and OC 14-14-14. IMO it's a great product, and it works really well in a hempy.
And simplifies the grow since all you add is water. How's the taste though since you can't really flush, can you?

I just picked some OC+ up, I'll start it up today and see how it goes. This would fit perfectly into the ease of use area!

Correct you can't do a traditional flush. The only time I ever got a funky taste (metallic or like a dryer sheet), was on one of my first runs and I took 1 of the 4 buckets and used clearex to flush, it did something to the prills and it wasn't good. I've also found that by the end of a grow most of the nutes have been used up, this is especially true with the OC 14-14-14 which claims to feed "UP" to 4 months, my experience with the aggressive cannabis plant it lasts about 10wks.

@ ineverveg. IMO. Its impossible to offer you any meaningful advice as to how many plants can fit in a 1cubed area. ... You can think of them a bit like Lizards. They usually all start out small but some grow into Alligators and some grow into Geckos. ... To complicate further, there is much pheno variation in the same strains.

I grew some Geckos (Violator Kush) and 1 could get maybe 30 in a 1x1x1m.
Ive just finished growing an Alligator (Lemon Skunk) and its maybe 1 or 2 in the same size area.

SOG can take a little trial and error to learn the particulars of a given strain and how it grows in your setup. Your defo right in doing away with seeds. They suck. lol.
atm i have some big bomb and cluster bomb mothers which are good 8 week strains, i have jut set a few testers straight into flower to see what happens, i will be giving them two weeks veg from now on and you are probably right about trail and error, im thinking if i start with 36 with a view to going to 25, i may even up the tray size to 1.2m

ineverveg, since you have a 600 watter (So fucking jealous my friend), you can easily veg them to 8-10". Provided they triple in size during the stretch, you'd still be within the light distance.
.
i start them under a 400 and slide them under the 600 after 2 weeks of flower, they will veg under a 250 for 2 weeks, hopefully i can get them to 10" in that time

About the Cal/mag issue, I've talked to more people and they say to ensure to keep the PH up if using lucas. That you won't experience the cal/mag issues that way.

Do you PH or run straight tap? I've read some run without adjusting PH

The more I read about osmocote, the more I want to switch now! Just looking at how green try stay throughout the grow! Frost and size too! Can you just water with pure RO water without PHing? This would mean I could easily setup an automatic drip without problems!

I ph to the top of the hempy / hydro range, I shot for 6.4 to 6.6, I know that the OC must push the ph down, but I don't know how much.

I watered last night with a large runoff, so the rez should be stabilized. My lights come on soon, I'll tip the bucket to get a rez sample and check the ph, I've wondered about this before, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Generally (because every strain is different) the OC+ will keep a plant in the 85% healthy green foliage all the way to heavy amber trichs, and it's really rare to see a burnt leaf tip during the grow.

I'm just amazed that more people haven't caught on to the level of effort an final results. The big reason I switched to Lucas was for simplicity. OC+ is like a dream come true.

Well I cal checked the meter (no adjust needed), checked the tap (7.1) checked the RO (7.0)
Took a sample of the rez...... ph 4.5 & 1400ppm, think I'm gonna take ph down out of the water prep.

Has anyone here ever sampled their rez before??
This is the 1st time I have.
I've seen the topic raised in other threads but never seen any results.
I'm really interested in what other nute regiments create in the rez.

Ive not looked at this yet. Its been a while since I thought on the matter.

hmm ... Interesting.

So basically if after feeding, the pH in the res has dropped so much why add pH down? Good Call WattSaver.

I'm going to look into this a bit more, pH down is kinda nasty. Its become apparent to me that the stuff should be used sparingly. From now on, I think I'll only use it to drop .2 or .3 pH levels max ... up to now Ive been using it to drop between .8 - 1.0 pH levels and its been locking the good stuff out.

Its kinda obvious that, the amount of phosphoric acid would bugger things up, Ive found this to be the case.

edit:
What really pisses me off is that the nute manufacturers always say get your pH down to between 5.8 - 6.8.

This is misleading advise because they ignore the many different methods used to grow which effect the pH and PPM after you water your plants.

Plants optimum uptake is between 5.8-6.8 but the swing (beit up or down) should be considered before adding H[SUB]3[/SUB]PO[SUB]4 (phosporic acid)[/SUB]

Well I've read to about page five and I think I may be hooked. But I have a few questions which I hope some of the people on here with more Hempy experience may have answers to.

First, I'm not a %100 sure on the feed and water schedule?

Second, I know you can grow any size plant depending on the size of the Hempy bucket. But you don't want to start a rooted clone in a five gallon hempy bucket because it would take forever for the roots to reach the resivoir. My question is, is it safe to start it in a little solo cup Hempy and keep transplanting into larger pots as it grows without to much stress?

Any insight would be great since if only ever grown I soil. Also what nute are you guys working with? Just a basic grow bloom micro and possible cal/mag

Hi Travis,

Regarding feed in 2L Hempy, in the first week of 12/12 just once. This increases to every 2-3 days when the plant gets really thirsty. ... Other size Hempys will probably vary.

The type of feed varies. Basically you can use anything found in the Hydrostores from 1 part feed to 3 part feeds. ... atm I'm working with GH Flora (Lucas formula)

Regarding your second question. ... Its depends on the substrate used. IMO In perlite its best to wait for a long roots system in the clone. ... However, some here on WOH are using Coco and others Mapito (Rockwool). These substrates hold a lot more moisture and a clone just feeds happily on that moisture until it hits the res. .... Any substrate can be used in Hempys and each have their own properties, 'Dalek Supreme' even uses pillow stuffing to grow his plants.

A few pages ago I was reading on training plants in a cyclone shape. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever read the main lining thread in sub cools old school organics section. With the over all faster plant growth in veg in Hempy buckets this could be a great method of growing if your not sog growing and in bigger Hempy buckets.

Here's a link to what I was talking about. https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/542308-main-lining-thread.html

Ive read it, most informative. Wish I had the head-space to try it.

All these techniques work with the Hempy. Its much like growing in regular pots.

Regarding your previous question about clones hitting the res. Well in Hempy's, there is no reason why you can't transplant in the same way you would if doing soil in pots.

Hope you give it a try, if you do please post a pic or two. :leaf:

I'm actually main-lining plants in my grow. I only have a 250w HPS and I use a bunch of cfl's sometimes, so I wanted to keep my plants small. The result is a mini sea of green with hempys, each main-lined to only four tops. Main-lining is a lot of fun and delivers hardcore results. Here is a picture from day 33 of 12/12. My journal is in my signature if you're interested.

Watt,

Are you noticing any deficiencies in your plants? I've been reading that these osmocote hempys are absolutely green the entire grow and was curious. While 4.5 is low, if all appears to be well then wonder what that means :/

Well hears my under standing of how the he oy bucket works. There is some slow growth until the roots hit the resuvoir, then it takes off.

I'm planning on taking my clones from my areo cloner when they gave like three to four inch roots and placing then in a hempy solo cop till the roots fill out in there and transplanting into progresivly larger Hempy buckets till I finish up in a five gallon hempy. So my cutting will be exactly 9weeks old from the day I take the cutting till it goes into flower. So I need the larger bucket.

This transplanting has always worked for me in soil, and since I cant water four to six times a day till the tap root reaches the rez. I figure enlarging to pot size enough for the tap root to constantly being in a rez could extend the time to at least a day between watering.
