I'm kind of disappointed at my lack of trimming on this run. I had help last time and that was cool, my own little personal gardener, but this one is all me and I was a little scared I'd over-trim again. Not like it'd make a huge amount of difference but it's not as tidy in there as I'd like. I need to get a better feel for how many leaves I actually need and at what point I need them.

Greetings on a fine holiday weekend. I hope everyone has a lot to be thankful for this year.

Couple of pics, couple of questions about potential issues my plants might be facing in the last few weeks that if I can fix I would like to. First off, because I didn't trim my plants very well this time around there are a lot of undergrowthy popcorny nugletts that aren't getting a ton of light and I noticed some of them had very orange hairs so I decided to bring them in and dry them out and see how they smoke. Here is the Durban:

and the Qleaner:

and now a few leaf pics and if anyone can help me diagnose these problems that'd be cool. Moreso so I know in the future but if there's anything I can do now that'd be cool too. So, I know this is one of those really really basic problems that every grower should know about and be able to avoid, but I don't know what it is, can someone learn me?

That necrotic coppery leaf tip is caused by ________?

And we have some weird coppery spots on the Qleaner too, but its more in the middle of the leaf not the tips:

Anyway, hope everyone has a killer weekend!!!!!!! Thanks for any advice in advance :D :D :D :peace:

Leaf tip like that for me usually means heat or light stress. The other one the spots are so small it's hard to say... doesn't look quite like Ca deficiency which causes speckles like that but it's hard to tell because of how small they are doesn't really look like it to me though... and if it's not that I don't know :)

I thought the tip burn like that was from nute burn lol. But that's just what I think I read??? While I appreciate your striving for perfection Ron. If those were my leaves I'd be real happy they were so green. I wouldn't even notice those spots are tips.

You should see some of the nasty buggers in my closet right now. All my issues are heat or light related. Got one plant pitching leaves like nobodies business. It's going to be the easiest plant to trim ever.

Things are looking good over there. And those pics above of the buds... are those the popcorn buds? They don't look all that small.

It's always good to worry about any problem no matter how small. Today's small leaf tip issue is tomorrow's wasted whole leaves in the wrong scenario if you don't catch it early. Getting better over time means fretting over the small stuff, just not freaking out over it :)

The Qleaner has spoken: it will come down tomorrow.

a 3 day flush with clean water, a tiny dash of normal nutrients and general hydro's flushing agent should be good for a flush correct?

Jig yea they were the undery-most undergrowth.

Also, I'm bummed about you room. As cool as it is to see one of these environments work it's also conversely super crappy when it doesn't.

Not to worry, my plants are quite happy, even the one with no leaves. :)

I like to flush for 2 weeks minimum with only water and zone (so nothing grows in the water). And I try to keep the pH right when doing it as well. No need to give them nutrients anywhere near the end in my mind. They have enough stored to finish things out.

Interesting... 2 weeks huh? Maybe I'll wait till this weekend because the first toke that tastes chemically (may be inevitable since it is the Qleaner!) I'd be upset that it wasn't flushed well enough. I've still got 2.5 gallons of distilled water so maybe I'll hit it with that and chop her on the weekend. My buddys schedule from the hydro store just says 3 days flush but better safe than sorry!

Heres a couple more pics before a quick shower and another day at the taffy mine.

The Durban has been kinda yellowy it's entire run... is it a notorious nutrient hog that has to be fed heavier? The nugs look awesome and still smells sweet and delicious like outdoor weed that I got in Australia.

More Durban:

And another close up of a qleaner nug... goddamn that plant has a distinctive smell!!!

Have a great day my RIU friends!

I don't think qleaner is supposed to taste chemically... it should range from grape musky to lemony pledge based on it's parents. I dunno how long to flush in hydro :)

hey Ron, nutrient schedules would have you use their nutrients as much as possible. The nute companies are in the business of selling nutes, not your plants being perfect. A hydro store will probably tell you to use a lot of nutrients as well. I've found 700ppms to be a good level and the leaves stay green. When I'm flushing I would hope to have almost all the green out of the leaves by the time I harvest. It never happens though. Still lots of green leaves coming off. But that's the goal, getting rid of all that nitrogen. Not sure but I think that's what one tastes when not flushed well, and what sparks when you light it. I could be making that up though.

You could let her go another week and get a nice heavy stone. Or harvest a little bit each day starting this weekend see what the difference is.

EDIT: Even the DM nute calculator has you adding 0 nutrients the last week.

Ya all I have in there is FloraKleen and literally a splash of my normal last week of nutes left over from the Durban. I thought I had read somewhere that you don't want to give your plant straight water but the more I think about it the less that makes sense.

I am totally fine with making mistakes though.. I'm not under pressure to yield a lot or have to try and sell this stuff to other people. For instance this run I did not use distilled water like last time purely so I can see if I can taste or see a difference. If I think I need to, I will get a RO system set up so there are no questions there.

I haven't really gotten into PPM or PH yet, like taking measurements constantly, and adding nutes throughout the week based on results. But that's on the table for the next run as well. I have a PH meter that I need to get into the practice of using, just haven't gotten to that level of control yet. Hell I still have a 30 degree temperature variance on my high to low throughout the day.

Alright. ALRIGHT.

I'm chopping the Qleaner right now. Apparently I am running the "lucas" formula according to the smarty pants neighbor/hydro store employee/master gardener that lives next door and helps me out. I did a quick search on flushing with the lucas formula and people seemed to think it was less important than with other setups. Sounded like a lot of the nutrients end up in the leaves, if there are any left and I trim pretty close so there shouldn't be any leaves in with my bud. The leaves are CRAZY crystally on the Qleaner, though, so we will be saving those in the freezer to mix with coconut oil later once we have the durban chopped too.

Maybe I'll take some pics of the operation! Hey... trimming and Jameson go hand in hand, right?

Not the bulkiest but purpley and crystallicious! Excited
That's what matters. Well, I guess the high is what matters, but should be good with all those crystals. I have a near 30 degree swing as well. At least my rez water stays cool. :)

Can't wait to hear the smoke report.
