Hermaphrodites - WTF!!!!

Alright guys and girls, what the hell is going on with hermies? I was under the impression it was 90% nurture and 10% nature and I've done everything perfectly this run and baby jesus has blessed me with a hermie that successfully pollinated 1/4 of my crop! What can I say.... I'm pissed! Thankfully its not the entire crop thats pollinated but still, its a bit disappointing. So what do you guys do to prevent herms? Is it a nurture thing or is this one of those things that requires constant monitoring during early flowing to identify hermies? Should I always expect at least one hermie to show up? ::Shakes Head:: well... happy thanksgiving all

I just keep a watchful eye on em. Have reverse handy but not needed it yet. I don't know how SOG folks can see balls in the mass.

just gotta keep a watchful eye. heh. i left some bud on one of my outdoor plants hoping it hermies before it gets too cold haha. sorry to hear 1/4 your crop got ruined. better luck next time man.

Why are you hoping it hermies? It would only be helpful (totally subjective) if a hermie pollinated a girl which would produce 'feminized' seeds. I don't look at it as ruined... I'll have a bunch of 'feminized' seeds and I was planning on running these through a 2nd veg state so I can take clones so its not a total loss though I'm sure is a good 8-10 zips of seeds :/ womp womp womp woe is me

a hermie can pollinate itself. and the plant was already harvested, and the bud that's on it is very little and small popcorn nugs. lol. that is a lot of seeds though atleast you won't have to pay for seeds anymore :O

A plant that is hermied by stress will produce terrible seeds that have a very high chance to hermie under very little stress. That's why breeders use colloidal silver to make their feminized seeds. Good breeders that is.

What's the difference between light stress, heat stress, or hormonal stress; all accomplish the same thing, the forming of male reproductive parts on the female plant. regards,

This is assuming the plant went hermaphrodite as a result of stress. So what if the plant doesn't turn because of stress, what if its just genetics? in this instance what role does colloidal silver play? AND since you mentioned colloidal silver, what role does THAT play? My understanding of colloidal silver is that it holds no health benefits for plants or animals... of course plants from seeds directly treated should not be consumed but the offspring from these plants SHOULD be ok... says? sometimes hermis are cause by light contamination are you sure your stuffs lightproofed?

colloidal silver from what i hear, you spray it on one branch of your plant or so (or whatever you want to grow pollen sacks) and then you can pollinate accordingly. and it may result in poor seeds. but poor seeds are better than no seeds. the strain is unknown as it was some bag seed from my neighbor, who is now deceased so there's no way of finding out what strain it is. :O that is my reason for wanting a hermied self pollinated plant.

I produced giant, fat, healthy, feminized seeds using colloidal silver. It is not hard. I am a moron and was easily able to produce thousands of great, fem seeds.

yeahh. i don't have coilloidal silver and was unprepared. by the time i realized it was a strain i would like to keep. it was too late. lol. so i just hoped it hermied. im building a small grow box 21x23x36 that i may take a clone of it to ensure it's survival lol.
