Yes I would, with the reason being that meeting the person behind the words and avi's would make my mental picture of you more complete, instead of a mosaic of memes and witty quotes. I'm a newbie here and not completely up to date on the personalities behind most of the posters here. But there are a few "characters" in this motley crew that would make for interesting discussions. I'm not one to hide so I would be wearing my ID and wearing a grin so big it would rival the Cheshire cat or Joker.
The only thing that would hold me back would be financial woes, which at this time are many.
If anything else it would make for one hell of experience, which life itself means nothing without.

Hahah. If there's one thing I've learned from hitting forum gatherings, it's that 99% of the frightening people are full of shit and don't show up because they'd have to bring it in real life and don't have the cajones.
Almost certainly, the only ones who find it worthwhile to make the journey, are the ones who are cool open minded people who want to socialize with other cool open minded people.

I went to a local Linux gathering once years ago. It was rather underwhelming. A bunch of nerds meet in a bar. Where the majority of them weren't of age yet. My buddy and I got hammered and started hitting on the mom of one of them. That's how nerdy it was, one guy brought his mom as a chaperone.
I imagine a RIU gathering would be a bit more fun. But I've been wrong before.

The one by the lake? That was very close to me, but I had to work or I would have gone. Drama makes sense, there is plenty here, but I really don't know what happened. I'd be down for meeting folks if it was reasonably close to my area. In the past I've gone to conventions and meetings with folks I knew from message boards and video games. And it was shitloads of fun. One was at a hotel in Vegas, three days of drinking and partying

we had a local RIU meet-up here in hawai'i a few years ago on 4/20/09. a handful of local RIU members showed up. it was an awesome experience and I made a lot of solid friends from that RIU meet-up.
