Just checked wikipedia, it said 5th...
In other news I heard Brazil is fucking awesome. I really want to visit.
my former boss turned customer is in south america on work. here is what she had to say about sao paulo:
- the girls all dress up way more than Americans, but still manage to look that "European casual" look
- everyone says thank you! (Obrigado!) This is a big change from Canada.
- everyone is polite, holds elevators doors, let women go first, etc. Big change from Canada.
- they use "Ciao" for goodbye as well.
- they all kiss, but just the one cheek. And they purposely go to every person in the office to kiss "hello/ good morning" and the same for "ciao ciao/ goodnight" at close of day.
- "the lion sleeps tonight" is known everywhere.
- the food is kick ass. and pretty cheap.
- frozen yogurt places are popular here too.
talked about health care & economy a bit today w people from Brasil & Argentina: they said healthcare all free, but like Canada you will probably die in the E.r. before you see anyone. They noted that basic schools are horrible and "barely teach the poor people how to read & write." they noted the public universities are completely free - wow. they noted clothes & accessory shopping is $$ and it's cheaper for them to get a flight to Miami & shop there and that a lot of people do this when they're going to have a baby - they go to Miami & get everything from strollers to baby clothes in the States.
there is a huge underground mall btw the WTC and the Hilton I'm staying at. We went to a really crowded buffet there and the girls LEFT THEIR PURSES AT THE TABLE and said it was safe. (I of course, kept mine with me). Just amazed me as I was thinking (not saying) "we're in Brazil people!!!" But, nothing happened, so kudos to the honest people of Brasil.
