2002 chevy impala. I have put it back up but the ad is delayed n will b up in a bit.
n yea we just noticed the loudness like when we brought it back to the place

That's what you get with a 10 year old AMERICAN car....... it's more important to buy foreign when looking at used cars since they are "generally" better built and will last longer. Let the hating begin.......

what do you mean by the engine is real loud today?? i wouldn't junk it for $200 until i took it to someone who knows what they are talking about and won't rip you off and have them take a look at it and see what they say honestly..
the squeeking could be anything from a lose belt, easy fix, to anything more intricate, expensive fix, so i wouldn't go off of that alone..

next time you want to buy a car, find a trustworthy mechanic that you know of and take the car there BEFORE you buy it.. if the seller isn't cool with you taking the car for a day or so to get checked out from a mechanic, you know they have something to hide and not to buy the car.. if they don't have anything to hide, they should gladly let you take the car to get checked out ime..
I will accept any advice i can on finding a trustworthy local mechanic. cn

Thats probly what im going to do.. I bought it for work for thoes jobs that require u to have ur own vehicle but i cant do that if the car might break down as i driving it rto work

Impalas are generally good because of the 3.8L motor, I've had no problems with my motor in my Impala, everything else with the car I've had problems with though lol

i never knew cars cost so much to maintain i thought it was just oil changes n coolant.
i didnt even know u had to pay to register n pay for plates n shit
Add the fact that you don't get to drive for two weeks......How old are you?

It's really about how well the car was maintained during it's life span. I don't buy used EVER, but I would look for someone that has kept a complete record of all repairs and oil changes. And go talk to the mechanic who normally worked on the car and see what he has to say about it- and maybe another personal mechanic to confirm.

But, in your current situation- take it to someone who comes recommended by a family member or friend and go from there. Maybe it's just something minor....

hey op, get in the car, start it up, and then try and turn the steering wheel all the way to one side of the other.. if the squeling gets really bad while you do it, simple fix.. it's just a lose belt, in this case a lose power steering belt..
i'm not a pro on chevy motors so i'm not sure if you have a serpertine belt that controls everything, or if you have several belts that control only a few things each..
you could also simply find the belt, and when the cars not running, push down on the belts to see if they feel lose to the touch.. they shouldn't have any slack in them at all, so if you feel it move pretty much 1/2 or more, you know it's lose..

if it's not the belt(s) it could be any number of tings like a water pump going bad and a bunch of other shit..

again, my best advice is to find a trustworthy mechanic, yes c/n, i read your post, lol.. while there are tons of shitty mechanics who will rip you off at every chance they get, there should be one or two locally who aren't as bad as the rest.. do like sshz said, talk to a family member or two or three and ask them who they take their cars to and if they like them or not.. word of mouth is a great way to find a decent mechanic imo..

Racerboy, that involves "having friends/family at hand". I'm a bit handicapped that way. The few folks here I've asked for reccos either shrugged or blathered. It's tough being a hermit. ;) cn

lol, very true cannabineer.. i tend to forget the area that you live in at times and not everyone lives in the middle of suburbia like myself..

So yesterday, i noticed that i drive in 2 weeks. Majorly excited by this i decided to buy a car. After looking thru forms on criegslist i notice a car i like. So i check it out. Car seems good to me so i buy it.
car comes homes, and i notice the engines real loud and now today ot started sqeualing.
spent 1500 on the car, started with 1780. Now at 280
car is so shitty i doubt ne1 will buy it if i repost it on crigslist. Thers a towing company willing to give me 200$ pick up for the car. Might as well take the deal and up with 480 and no car out of all this experience?

what do u guys think. Major feedback is needed please as i am not good with money. And now have a shitty car
I feel for you bro!My advice, if your mechanically inclined, is to go to your nearest parts store(some auto parts store personnel can help, just ask:)and buy a Haynes or Chiltons repair manuel, go thru all troubleshooting steps. These are manuels used by pros for rebuild/repairs with pictures:).You say a squealing sound, coming from under the hood?could be your serpentine belt(easy fix), coming from under the car?can you feel it through the steering wheel?could be bad brakes/rotors.That's all I can say without driving it.If all else fails have the engine detailed, wash it and try to sell it!Start at $2000 down to $1500:).GL.peace
