Confused About ventilation and carbon filters

Hey fellow weed people.
im slowly getting ready for my 2nd grow
but ive gotten really confused about the ventilation and what sort of carbon filter to use.

My room is 120x120x180cm i will be running a 400w hps

so my question is how much air movement do i need in that room and how big of a carbon filter should go along with
what the kind of fan?

and should i go with active carbon filter or?

Thanks in Advance - Rabbit

That means your room is 2.5m3.

So you want to replenish the air once a minute so we multiply this by 60.

150m3h

however in order to cool the room with a 400w lamp being used without an air cooled hood you need to add 15%

to cut a long story short I would recommend you get yourself a 5" centrifugal fan and filter.

I would recommend something like an RVK125L1 along with a 5" CANLITE filter.

You can buy a speed controller for the fan to turn in down in winter and up in summer.

350m3h for the fan and around 400m3h for the filter.

MAKE SURE YOUR FILTER IS RATED HIGHER THAN YOUR FAN AND YOU'LL BE GOLDEN.

Thats good advise but using a 6 inch set up will be easier to find ventillation equipment, hoods, pipe etc. 5 inch is just kind of an odd ball size, at least where I live.

5" ducting is almost non-existent, you wont find it at any local hardware store. when in doubt go a little bigger. 6" is a good size

This is another alternative too.

RVK150A1 pushes out 480cmh
CANLITE 6" allows up to 600cmh through it before it looses its effectiveness.

what is the noise level on that RVK150A1 ?

If you check online there are some spec sheets but 45dB sticks in my mind.

Mounting plays a big part of noise through vibration etc.

where do you plan on using it?

obviously I know within your 1.2x1.2x1.8 but where is that room? In your bedroom? In your front room? Is it a closet?

how quiet do you need it to be?

I have used both the A1 and the L1 varieties of this fan. The L1 came with alot of noise, but I used a metal bracket within my attic attached to my roof joists which I don't think helped.
The A1 I used with bungee cords within my room which was situated above my stairs and could not hear it at all when you walked underneath the room to go upstairs.

So logistics play a big part in noise level too.

Explain if you can where its to go and I'll try as best I can to give you pointers on making it quieter.

Hi SR

firstly if this is a tent setup you can mount the fan on bungee's inside the tent which will be quiet enough if anyone comes round your place.
Secondly if the tent is within your sleeping area it maybe too noisy to sleep next to it.

On another note where do you plan to send all the filtered air coming out of the tent?

i hope it's not back into the same room that the tent is situated in?

this creates a loop of OLD air and it will quickly become depleted of Co2. You could combat this by opening a window in the room however open windows create another problem. PEST INSECTS.
