I want to stop using soil!A few general questions...

Hey everyone while I plan read until my eyes hurt and then so more I figured I'd ask a few general questions first.

I want go to soilless, I been growing for around two years and I am tired of buying tons of soil, the mess of having it in doors etc. I grow in an 8x10 and 6x4 space with a wall separating (this wall can be removed) I know just enough about hydroponics to be dangerous and I want do things right. I suppose my question is, starting from scratch and limiting myself to a $5,000 budget what options are out there to build a hydroponic system and maximize my space? What have people had success with? Do I build it or buy? Compared to soil how many plants can I grow in my space? Things to stay away from?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I don't know where you got the idea that hydroponics is dangerous, where did you get that idea and what's the danger? anyhow there are lots of different systems out there, ebb and flow, dwc, drip iregation airoponics and so forth, you can build your own or purchase any system on line or local hydro store. the simplest way is get some 1 gal pots, fill with hydroton ( clay pellets ), get some grow gubes plant your seeds once sprouted put in pots with clay pellets and feed with nute diluted according to instructions, you can use a drip irregation system or just feed them as you would with house plants. That's how I do it, I mix a few gals of nutes and poor the nutes in the pot until full and let it all drain out. three times a day, easyist method and works fine for me. you need to control you ph and ppm's with a ph meter and a tds meter, of course you'll need lights but I'm sure you know that, hope this helps and gives you an idea on how to go abt it.

I use aeroponic, I believe its the fastest way of growing weed. You can take 2 weeks off a grow with one. O2 rich environment, controlled nute intake and clean as a whistle. You can veg for 10 days and go right to flower.bongsmilie

read the first 75 pages of stinkbuds thread, harvest a pound every three weeks. and also check my sysyem in hydro section, my 3 stages of flower.

When someone says "I know enough to be dangerous" it is an expression meaning they have limited knowledge about a subject.... they know just know to make a mess...

Anyway thanks for the feedback.

You can build something but it's real easy to get a ebb and grow or some other brand they come with everything you need to start. I have a system that has 2gal. pots I would go for a 3 gal system if I had it to do again. Making your own isn't real hard if you like to build things but you will need to know a lot and be willing to do some testing.

Several routes to go. Whats the vertical space like in the rooms? If you have a decent ceiling height i would rig up a Undercurrent Dwc and grow some tree's. If vertical space is limited i would go eb and flow tables with almost no veg. (check out the threads by Al B Fuct.

Start with a single 5-gallon DWC. It will teach you and THEN you know what to spend 5K on. Some know more than others. Superstoner knows his shit. Listen to posters like him.
