My Mapito order came today.....tossing around the idea of leaving out the perlite in the bottom of my next 2gal bucket grow. I don't want to change my watering amount though,,,,it's so nice feeding an even 1gal per bucket with my #3 perlite in the bottom (mixing nutes is a breeze). I'll bet the res fill amount is different with a different medium down there. Anyway I need to decide which strain to go with to showcase this medium...I have a one week to go before seeds should be germed for the next grow to overlap seamlessly.
Here's my inventory of seeds: What would you pick for the cooler temps coming and a new hempy bucket medium?
BF Blue Cheese
BF LSD
DP Blueberry
G13 Pineapple Express
Shark's Breath
Crazy Miss Hyde
BF Red Dragon
BF Acapulco Gold
Nirv. Bubblicious

There is absolutely no need to put perlite in the bottom of the mapito, the aeration qualities are more than sufficient.

so a few days ago while attempting to flush one of my severely nitrogen burnt seedlings, i accidently overflooded the solo cup i had it in and most of the perlite fell out. so i took the root mass out and placed it in a small bowl while i attempted to fetch the floating perlite to put back into the cup. a day later i had fresh unburnt healthy forest green new growth instead of the wrinkly dry deformed new growth i had before that. so i thought maybe this washed a bunch of the salts out of the root mass and the perlite so that now the plant is healthy. so i attempted to do it again with 2 of the worst seedlings i have , the are so bad i plan to have to throw them ot if they didnt get better. if i get good healthy new growth in next few days from them, ill be so happy and i will know how to quickly get rid of nute burn. i know this is easier in a solo cup then it is in a 18 gallon tote or a 7 gallon bucket but there can be ways to do it. am i do something wrong doing it this way? would i damnage my root mass this way.?

day 24 update
the babies are all healthy and growing. wonder when it will hit the growth spurt stage of veg.
i have a problem with two of the plants. it can either be zinc toxicity or calmag def. idk what it could be.
day 24-2.jpgday 24-3.jpg

the other one is when it was nute burn my newbie ass decided to try fimming it to maybe get better new growth and it turned out to be a deformed looking monster...

day 24-4.jpg

i think my dumbass fimmed and topped too early. it might have stunted growth fo a while. but i didnt top the ones that are the strongest cuz i plan to use those as mothers of my clones

I put some G13 Pineapple Express seeds in paper towels today and started soaking the new "Mapito" medium in RO water. It's interesting how it swells in volume when you initially soak it. I made up some hempy-cups from 14oz clear plastic cups (Wally World) that I will place inside regular blue "Solo" cups for light suppression. Thought being...I do want to see the sprout's root development in the Mapito via clear cups for that perfect moment to transplant into the larger hempy buckets. I only used 5.8pH water for the mapito prep....don't see any need in charging it with nutes yet as the directions imply....the larger 2gal buckets will see that treatment when I transplant from the cups. For now maybe just some Canna Rhizotonic for the seedlings in the mapito.

Keep us posted for sure on the P.E. I ordered some but I have too much on my hand to pop'em yet. Will you be using the whole canna lineup because I thought about using the Canna substra lineup.

I'm into my 6 day on my first run of Hempy's... watered at 400PPM the first two waterings and at about 740PPM last night (3rd watering, once every two days), GH nutes, watered once this week with cal/mag (1.25ml/gallon), will flush every 4th watering.. growth rates so far look to rival my old aero setup, excited to see the results!

Need to find my camera cord so I can post some pics!

What size light in your hempy set up? Also did you do any veg time or did you of straight from rooted clone to 12/12.

Will do....I'll be using Canna Substa too since I'm departing from coco (until the mapito proves out). Canna Coco A&B was great in the hempy buckets....too bad I have to switch to a Substra Vega and Flores both with an A&B (4 bottles to deal with). One thing I've noticed with the mapito is it's kind of chunky to be tossing fresh seedlings into....might have to break out the Rapid Rooters and place those in the solo cups of mapito.

nice. . . .but I forgot to ask. . . How many 2l's under your 600.
Right now, I've only got seven in the 2l as I am transitioning from soil SOG to 2l hempy. I have 23 soil SOG plants under the 600w with my 7 hempys for a total of 30 right now. I have 42 soil SOG plants under the 1000w next to the 600w setup (3 X 12 plant cycles, spaced 2.5 weeks apart in age, plus 6 BC God's Bud at nearly 11 weeks finishing up from my last cycle).

I have 13 more Aurora in the aero cloner that should be rooted and ready to go into 2l bottles, directly into 12/12 by Sunday. Those will go under the 600w too.

Why do we depart from proven methods??? Could it be that the grass is really greener on the other side?

I too have decided to try & find a greener pasture, with a trial of coco. I'll show subjects soon.

Indeed, Coco is my "dialed in" and most awesome choice for the hempy experience. I'm looking at 2 girls right now wondering how the hell something that big with that fat of a stalk came out of a 2 gal bucket of coco. It really amazes me every day. I've never had to water daily at the start-up as the perlite hempy's need. The wicking is just that good. But there may be a couple more things to improve...over coco. One is root displacement in the res with perlite. My roots just won't leave the coco and dive into the perlite res of a 2g bucket. A member here tells me I can run 100% mapito all the way down. Maybe my root ball will be larger in that respect. Another improvement over coco may be watering frequency. You start out every 4 or 5 days but by the last 2-3 weeks of flower (depending on strain) my coco bucket's need water/nutes every other day. One member here is saying his watering frequency is less with mapito. That could be scarey with a larger bucket if the plants can't keep the res dry enough to prevent root root and bacteria down there. To me it sounds like a fun comparison grow since it is now popular in Holland as a "drain to waste" medium. It could be too that I just want something "strange" as coco has been so effortless. BTW I had 2 of 3 Pineapple Express seeds pop in rapid rooters today...once the roots show out the sides they go into the hempy solo-cups of mapito pre-soaked with Rhizotonic. When I see roots fill in the clear hempy cup I'll toss them into the 2g buckets with a mapito pre-soak of 0.8EC Canna Substra Vega A&B with half the res filled to check the wicking (no water everyday I hope).

My Cindy's hit 4 weeks flower today....the one on the right would be 5'11" had I not bent the top to avoid the lights. Those aren't the 2g buckets below...those are the plastic oil pans from the auto store to catch the overflow.

Nice lookin' girls, I remember the puff ball buds of the C99 I grew some time back. They didn't get real big but they were everywhere. You may have to do some topping next time you run the C99 to even out the canopy.

I cut down a couple last weekend, the Big Island Thunder showed it's potential, even with the death syndrome at the start of flower. I think it will be just short of 3oz when it dries out. When I was trimming, it smelt (& still does) like rancid pineapple. I'm real excited about the next run, with the new cross of the Maui-Wowie & the BIT. I've got 5 and they are trimmed up for 8 heads each. One odd thing I noticed is that the 2 youngest (seeds were planted 1wk later) I put in mini-coco hempys, and they look to be at least 2wks behind in growth compared to the other 3 that are being vegged in the coco soil substitute. I'm hoping to get 3 girls out of the 5. I finally got my home computer up and running again, so I'll try and get some photos up this evening.

question guys, does the size of my final container make a big difference in yield and growth? i was planning to use 28 qt trash bins for the buckets but someone i know who has done hempy before said that 7 gallon buckets would give me plants too big for me to control. is this true?

It seems I remember that Dahli Hempy himself in a another forum telling those with bigger aspirations that they only needed a 10L bucket and he was doing 9' sativa's. He beat on everyone wanting to change his system though and threads were cooking with flame wars by the end...so silly. I have heard of success in the 5g bucket arena, even in outdoors, just don't know the size but looked like they were hefty hedges. Your 7g isn't far from that so it should work. If your container isn't round you may have to do a comparison ratio of volume vs. height in order to know how high to place the hole on the side. If you decide to pioneer that larger container, keep us informed...I'd like to see the day we match DWC. I can tell you the difference between a 2g and 3.5g bucket growing the same strain....~10% larger plants, 1g vs. 1.5g water per bucket feed ...but same watering frequency (gulp). I have a headroom limitation in tents so I backed down in bucket size but could have used training techniques if I only knew how high they were to go. Seems I'm in a race to try as many strains as I can before the laws change back to the worse here when dispensaries open (25 mile rule). If I was simply limited by a 9' ceiling indoors without the confines of a tent, I'd be a 5g bucket-head for sure and larger if I knew it was possible.
