Seed Chronicles: A Germination Report/ Grow Log

Hey there. I can never seem to find in depth cognitive reports on genetics from Seed and their respective breeders, especially chronicling Day 1 of germination, germination reports, etc, so I thought Id throw up a review of my own highlighting this latest order of mine from Attitude. Hopefully somebody finds it helpful/informative. Quick History: After blowing it countless times early on in the ten + years Ive been cultivating in and outdoors, Ive performed every Fail maneuver in the book regarding germination, including but not limited to: soaking seeds in cups of water for too long & drowning them, not securing a regulator to a heating mat and cooking them with 100+ degree temps, forgetting to check on the paper towel and allowing them to dry out beyond the chance of resuscitation, the list goes on. Because of these trials, Ive simply become a germination Wizard. If the seed is viable, I will get it to pop. Period. Ive lost too much $ over the years to neglect the Seed Code. With that said, heres the report card from this latest pack from 4 packs of seeds from 3 different breeders.
Blueberry(Regs) Dutch Passion
Having grown Blueberry roughly a dozen different times from DJ Short and Dutch Passion, Ive become familiar with and much prefer Dutch Passion's BB offering. Ive found the plant to be stable( only 2 or 3 phenos), extremely vigorous, and capable of producing top shelf blueberry muffin smelling buds if grown properly. There is of course the Blueberry mutant issue that one must deal with early on in the seedling stage, but Ive personally found the plant to outgrow this annoying trait once it gets roughly 5-6 nodes.
Latest pack report 10-26-12. Pack of 10. The seeds came in with the proper aesthetics one would hope for: dark in color, nice striping and nice and firm. Germination report: Approx 99% success rate with one on the way most likely making it a clean 100%.Disclaimer: I have zero confidence in Dutch Passion's genetics aside from their Blueberry. Ive experienced hermaphrodites with some of their other strains, and I cant ever risk trying any of their other offerings again for that reason. Their BB is legit though.
OG#18(F) Reserva Privada
My first time with this strain. I had good experience with Sour Kush and Purple Wreck in the past, Ive also experienced some utterly crappy genetics with DNA& RP and piss poor germ rates. In my opinion, theyre slightly overrated but do have some killer gear. Its hit or miss with them. They are outstanding with Marketing though;)
Latest pack report
10-26-12 Pack of 10. Although my photo displays 6 seeds, this was a pack of 10. The other four seeds are conveniently located deep in the shag of my oversized living room carpet, thanks to ludicrous, impossible-to-open perfume bottles they package their seeds in. Upon wrenching the vial open, of course my seeds were sent flying. 6 for now, Ill find the other 4 later Wayne Szalinski- style with a magnifying glass and a flashlight. Germination:100% so far. Appearance: nice striping, firm and viable.
Sour Kush(F) Reserva Privada
Second time growing this strain. The first time I was impressed with the quality and the buds had that true Headband taste and smell. Buds turn pure white and the leaves display streaks of Black/purple. An epic plant. Whats up with all the feminized seeds though? I may stop ordering from DNA&RP unless they start offering Regs in all varieties again. Theyre trippin if they think they can hold their place in the market with Feminized beans as their staple.
Latest Pack Report: 100% germination rate. Nice appearance.
Tahoe OG:Cali Connection
Hmm.. I gave him another shot despite some rumors of germ issues and stability with hermaphrodites. Im actually somewhat of a CC fan since growing out a pack of Raskal OG about 3 years ago. I still have my Fire Cut and its literally the dankest strain Ive personally ever grown. Its a dense, impossibly resinous heavy yielder that smells like SFV OG, yet avoids the lame, lanky, low yielding disposition most OG's are known for. However, regarding this latest pack of CC Tahoe, I am anything but stoked.
Latest Pack Report10-26-12 Pack of 10.seeds look fine in the package, but upon sitting in an ideal environment for two days now, they lack the vigor necessary to explode and throw out that epic white root tip the other seeds in this order displayed. Ive experienced this before and can only explain it as lacking vigor. The situation here could be due to some old stock via Attitude's shelf, but these rates are simply unacceptable: two or three lethargic seeds and the rest showing no signs of vigor. At this point, in my experience, the seeds are a loss if they dont engage within the first night or second. Major Drag considering these were the most $$ in the bunch at roughly $120 for a pack of ten. Perhaps its some old stock though. Whatever the reason: Unacceptable.

Ill continue to update as these seeds begin to grow up. Thanks for looking.

Nice log! I'll be following this thread. Surprised to hear how u feel with the dp bb and dj bb. Seems like if I want bb bad enought those are some legit options instead of just dj's.
I agree tho DNA/Rp has some good gear and they are 1 hell of a marketer.

Thanks. Have you grown Blueberry from both? I found DJ's version to have phenos all over the place, and I received some seeds in my last one of his packs that were premature: a couple were white! He also conveniently is unreachable via email or any other outlet

As far as tips:sort of an obvious one but nevertheless critical:the humidity dome. You want to mimic the paper towel environment as closely as possible so as to not shock the fragile little seeds. On that note first, your paper towel environment should be fairly warm but not Hot. Heating pads are ideal, but the ones youre going to find at Target, Bed Bath n Beyond etc will have "safety timers" on them usually shutting off automatically after 30 mins max. Theres ways to Mod the pad and Im sure theres threads on it here at RIU, but I simply use the top of my T5 8 bulb Veg hoods. Any warm surface will do. Paper towel: I find its best to keep them moist throughout with a couple pools on the corners to draw water from overnight, while leaving air pockets in the towel for added O2. And of course clam shell two plates together to prevent evap. Once popped,I personally prefer to let my root tips progress to what can be seen in the pics above, because you can simply pack soil around the root shaft and leave the shell exposed, instead of burying a seed that has just thrown out a minescule tip.Back to the dome: Im not a fan of clone domes for seedlings, because theres more surface area within the larger dome and it tends to dry out faster. With the smaller cup to party cup method, its sort of a Micro climate and each individual seedling is more portable and easier to work with/ re moisten the dome.I usually leave the domes on until the seedling throws out its first set of true leaves. As it stands now, my entire order is sprouted and identical to the one in pic. As for my Cali Connection Tahoe beans, there are two that were viable. The rest are unfortunately resting in peace in the paper towel, even as the freebie seeds from Attitude that were germinated three days later are throwing out nice white tips.

Also, Jack n Molly, what media are you in? For growing in general this isn't of too much of concern, but can be critical when dealing with seeds. I know I've personally fried the S*** out of some fledgling danklings with the wrong media choice. Ive found Happy Frog to be safe for all stages of growth and ive personally never had any but outstanding results with seeds in the stuff.

Been a little while but heres an update. Im personally not into sifting through 80 pages of indiscernible transitional pics in other growers threads, so Im going to try to keep the updates pertinent to noticeable growth, bud development shots etc only.

So far, looking like I scored a couple gems in terms of structure, but well see how the buds turn out to see if theres any keepers!
Strain Seed to Veg Report
Sour Kush:
Thus far its appeared very stable with minimal pheno variation between plants. Most are dark and fat with medium vigor. Only two noticeable phenos from what I can tell with this pack. Time will tell if its as dank as my last SK run.
Blueberry: So far the most vigorous plants out of the bunch, which is the opposite of my previous Blueberry grows. Theyre usually painfully slow through the seed phase(in my experience.) A nice change, but Im hoping despite the new traits of vigor its the same end product from previous packs! Phenos: mostly uniform heavily Indica with one very sativa looking plant. The most beautiful plant so far in the bunch is a Blueberry female.7 Females, 3 Males
Tahoe OG: The $120 Seed.So out of that entire pack of Cali Connection Tahoe, two seeds popped, one being male. Although I have a sour taste in my mouth with those hellacious germ rates, Ill give an unbiased report on the end product of my one female. Maybe itll turn out to be the dankest bud Ive ever grown. Maybe not. Im done buying seeds from Cali Connection regardless.
OG 18: So far Astronomical pheno variation. Each plant looks different! Tall Lanky Sativa dom, to a short fat leaf pheno, and everything in between. Time will tell!

A few photos for now , as well as one of the bloom tents. :leaf:

*Cant figure out how to take the shots out of thumbnail format. To clarify, havent flowered any of the plants from the seed order. Bloom pics are some other strains I run. Thanks for looking.

Ehyy sorry for the long time in between responses, i have been busy. I am going to use FFOF for plant but i got some sort of RR from plantlightinghydropinics.com for germination. Slow process yaknow? Btw i have some deadhead OG CC that im scared to try. I wonder if swerve will replace them if they dont pop.

Whats up dude. RR as in rapid rooter? They work fine for germination just make sure you don't sow them too deep. I've had seedlings get stuck, throw leaves down inside the rooter and end up throwaways. I've found that snipping off the tops of the rooters to make the hole more shallow works better for seeds. They still throw a root but the casing doesn't have to travel up as far. In my experience at least. Good luck.;)

Jack n Molly, who knows, maybe yours will be fine. For myself personally its not even worth the time contacting him, then waiting to see if he okays a replacement pack, then contacting Attitude, then waiting for the beans, then popping more beans, then....

There's too many solid strains in the community to even waste time dealing with incompetency. Done. The cream rises to the top and the Detritus stays at the bottom. I prefer cream;-)

Enjoyed the thread thanks for haring this!
Thanks brother. Update: So far the Blueberry and the Sour Kush are the most righteous looking in regards to structure and overall vigor/ appearance. Already unimpressed with the OG18 but who knows. It's still early. The$ 120 Cali Connection Tahoe seed( refer back to page 1) is looking like a SFV Og cut in terms of structure. Seems the pheno I got is somewhat on the lanky side. Again, too early to truly tell though.
