Pistils can be misleading, the only sure way is to check the trichomes. If you post some pics someone can probably tell you how much longer you have.

Invest in a pocket magnifier its the only way to be sure really (or use macro mode on a camera)

You can tell by the calaxs or how you spell it its when they start expanding they start at the bottom and go to the top and if you Google it you will get an idea of when to pull it if you can't get a $20 scope

You dont need a scope. Wait until you see the bud. Red hairs are only a indication your close to ripe. Red hairs still need to recede into the calyx. They will swell and make the bud. It is my honest opinion that most growers harvest 1-2 weeks to early. Mad about crazy shrinkage? Not talking about swimming either... If so, it was harvested to early and didn't have the density. Poor smell and taste? Was probably harvested to early grown poorly or possible drying error. Low amount of trichomes? Possibly harvested to early. Save your self the frustration of the #1 noob mistake and start out flowering extra long. If you dont like the end product flower a week or two less next time. But I bet you wont. Fully ripened buds taste and smell awesome and even better when dried and cured properly.
