Odor control

Hello to everyone here. I live on the Mexican border in Texas and am thinking about starting an small indoor grow for personal use. While there are many reason for I want to grow my own, most I'm sure the same reason most people have their own grows, the main reason is to boycot any and all drug cartels! Now, I plan on using a bathroom in my house that is not regularly used. The bath tub will hold 2 or 3 planters. (3 gallon size each). The only window is lightblocked and will be kept closed. I will run the exhaust fan 24/7 to help with odor control.

My question to more experienced growers is about odor control. Is the exhaust fan enough? What else can I do to help control odors? Is this likly to stink up my house? Remember Texas border. Discretion is a must!

Thanks in advance for any help.

PS. In case you didn't know, we are losing the "war on drugs". Drug cartels murder an average of 5 people a day on the other side of the river:-(.

def carbon scrubber .ona gel at the exhaust or any problem area you may have, I have a spot just above the grow in a hall that gets some odor so I put a ona mist dispenser in that hall. I don't recommend that dispenser though because it's mickey mouse, get the timemist , it comes with ozium refills. you can also get a pyrethrin refill for it.

the money part is ongoing, if you're not willing to spend the money just buy your weed man, soon though the prices will be back up I'm sure.

you can probably use the existing exhaust fan DUCTING/PIPE but the exhaust fan for the bath just isn't going to do if you plan on running any power at all in lights.that's where a carbon canister and appropriate fan comes into play. but then you also need a steady supply of cool fresh air.

there's somewhere on here someone is talking about exhausting down the shitter :/
dunno how that works, I can see the idea of exhausting in a basement to the sewage line but not a shitter, ah well, good luck!

OK.. Ive saved my money I'm ready to make the investment and buy the "Carbone filter". So where can I get this?
PS; Mr. Ganja, is it carbon filter and CARBONE a typo or is carbone a brand name? I always thought Carbone was what you did after the high school prom.

The fan and filter have to be matched to your room size and way you're running the filter, if you're exhausting from the room the fan will be a smaller cfm fan, if you're recirculating (in a sealed room) the fan will be a larger cfm fan. post your room details and someone will be happy to recommend a carbon scrubber and fan combo.

Whoa big time spender don't spend the big time cash, Google - DYI carbon filter - single click on the first pic u see - will take u to a rollitup thread that walks u through making one for around 20 bucks - I made it and it works great - have to change filter every 3 months but that's peanuts compared to what your about to spend now - read a thread that said the carbon filter can be baked for 30 minutes at 350 degrees to reactivate the charcoal - also read a thread that explained why, when I connected this to my 250 cfm inline fan I still had the skunk smell - read you can't use a high cfm fan as the filter needed an X amount of time for the ordor particles to attach to the filter - I'm using an 80 cfm inline fan and it don't smell at all and I vent to the outside. My grow room is 4'w x 10'L x 8't best thing is I bought all the materials including the fan at Menards my favorite hang-out lol.

For a regular sized bathroom, this should do the trick:
http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-A-GrowBright-4in-Tall-Boy-Inline-Fan-&-Carbon-Filter-Combo.asp

Grab a $20 fan speed control, you can have the fan on minimum while vegging.
You can save $20 and get the smaller filter if you want.

Someone mentioned venting out the bathroom fan. Your neighbors will catch a whiff when the wind is right.
I would use the filter and vent out the ceiling or into another room. Just cut a hole in the wall/ceiling.
The air will get pulled in the bathroom under the door etc. You need to block light but still allow fresh air in your grow room.

I grow in a med state and still control odor with 3 fan filter combos. Nobody needs to know I grow.

You are going to have the most smell when you harvest/dry/cure. You will have the least the first few weeks of veg.

i built a diy carbon filter and it didn't work worth shit, maybe my plants were really stinky but i have a weather strip sealed door and my intake had a carbon filter on it so the only place it could exhaust was through my filter and my house was still stinky. if you are serious about discretion then pay the money and buy a real carbon filter, i am for my next grow

I did`t wait a grow; after 6 weeks of Veg, as they began to set preeflowers I had a hard time staying in my apartment (two plants) not to talk about sleeping, so neighbors and police is not the only concern if its a home grow, two hours after I got the filter I had next to no smell and could sleep ;)

p.s.

my filter cost around 70$ at my local grow/hydro store:

money well spend and as I don't add it, in Veg I bet it will work for +1 year, this is not what break my budget. nor do new bulbs every year, most annoying is getting soil all the time :D
