There were scientific reasons, you don't thinks they were gathering data? Just because redbull puts their name on it doesn't mean it's not still a scientifically valid space jump. They gathered data that will be used to further the development of better space suits, so they can handle more server conditions. That last guys didn't break the sound barrier, and didn't go through as much atmospher which gets really hot at that speed. So this is new data they gathered.

I wonder what sort of suit-surface temps they measured. I would not expect a big spike, since in aircraft frictional heating problems are minimal at a sustained Mach 2. cn

All I know from watching it live, was on the infrared camera there was a point where he was just a glowing blob. Couldn't distinguish his arms or legs anymore, he was just like a glowing orb for a little while.

I just Googled it and found no temp data, but his suit's max temp rating was one hundred degrees F. cn

Stratos was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Which is saying something. I"ve been meaning to google this but maybe somehere already knows. This bitch broke the sound barrier right. What about Terminal Velocity?

Surly that isn't 800 mph for a 200 give or take lbs man. On second thougt, maybe it was his heavy suite?
