They also try to distort the reporting process, such as requiring brokers to report sales, but not purchases, which grossly overvalues your profits. Stupid IRS claimed I owed them 4 million dollars in back taxes and fines when they finally admitted they owed me 400+ after 2 years of them threatening me. For some reason, they "lost" my return, repeatedly. After the third time, I threatened to sue them for malicious prosecution. 4 weeks later, they mail me a check and an apology. Fucking dickheads!
