Hey, Currently i am running a 600w metal halide 24/0 plants are very nice looking short n bushy im thinking of switching it up to 20/4 and later on ill switch it to 18/6 for like a week or so before i switch it to flower stage and swap in the 600w hps 12/12. Is 20/4 a better light cycle then 24/0 i heard good things happen with a little dark period. let me know, thanks.

yes 20/4 is good schedule for veg 18/6 works good too... plants need night time for normal metabolic processes

cannabis is a photosensitive plant and needs light to grow. when its in a dark period oxidising happens which cause cannabis plants to stretch, ie when u flip the lights for flowering, so if u think about it 24 hr light would have more true growth than the other schedules but i must agree it isnt natural at all to not have dark, i think ur 20/4 schedules perfect. peace

I go with 18/6 because I listened to people that sounded like they knew what they were talking about.

I have read a few threads here on RIU about this subject and from what i have gathered, plants have processes' that they carry out during a dark period. While MJ definitely does not need a dark period because it will carry out the processes' during a 24h light cycle, it does benefit from some down time. From what I've read, people have experienced better growth with a 20/4 or 18/6 lighting period vs a 24/0, plus it lowers electricity consumption and temps in your grow area.
