MH Bulb orientation is it dangerous??

Quick question for those experienced with Metal Halide bulbs. I have some bulbs that are base up orientation, the specs say that they can go as much as 15 degrees off vertical. If I use these bulbs sideways will they blow up or anything or is it just that it will reduce the output and life span of the bulb.

I do have some bulbs that are universal position but the other bulbs are less than useful to me and I thought I might use them for some early (noobie) growing while the learning curve is so steep. I have heard that it is valuable to keep track of the hours the bulbs have been used. The universal pos bulbs are brand new, the base up jobs are lightly used.

Thanks

MH bulbs are very dangerous if not used properly. they can throw hot glass everywhere when they blow. if it is not a universal bulb then you must use it in the position it is designed for.

i have seen a lamp failure on a 400w MH bulb that also shattered the protective glass lens in the fixture.

be safe
