or for $120 and 78 more watts an hour you could get a 400w hps from htgsupply.com. they were saying with it you get 70 lumen a watt like it was alot. my 400w hps puts out 137.5 per watt.(the bulb is a h.o. htgsupply bulb, the one that comes standard with their hps, has enhanced blue and violet spectrum too. i use mine for veg and flower. its performed better than any other type of bulb for vegging).

I actually do have a 400 hps from htg supply lol. I was just curious about cfls and I want something else to veg and root clones. Something cheap and efficiant. Check out my journal I just started it, I will have pics up asap.

I want to harvest every 3 weeks or so. I can clone and 12/12 from there but im not sure I can yield what I want to doing that. I'm hoping for 2-3 ounces every 3 weeks eventually, just trying to figure how i'm gonna go about it.

A clone put to 12/12 right away should give an 8th to 10 grams or so. You will have to flower about 12 plants at once to get the yield your asking

Word, I was actually just looking into doing 12/12 from clone. Some dudes on another forum can get between 1 and 3 ounces per with the strains they grow doing it, apparently. im gonna give it a shot, I have some t8s I can keep clones under. I'll just keep starting them every 3 weeks until I start harvesting if it yields enough to last me between I'm happy.

no way i'd get it. they are trying to mislead you with that 1400 number, that is the incandesent equivelent. in reality its 322.
Been using them for over three years, and they work fine. Your off on the 322 though..they use 322 watts of power not incandescent equivalent. Incandescent equivalent for the 23watt bulbs (100w output) is 1,600 per bulb. ITS ALL IN HOW THEY ARE USED and HOW MUCH LIGHT in the CORRECT spectrum's used. Anyone who's trying to use cfl's to replace hps units cfl watt equivalent for hps watt will be disappointed, for several reason.
One. They are not equivalent. A 1000 watt hps puts out a total of 150k+ lumen. Of that lumen 13% is usable light to your plants. The rest is wasted energy, but even with the wasted energy they still provide almost 20k lumen in the correct spectrum's your plants like. A 1000 watt's in equivalent cfl's only produce 16k in lumen, thus the hps units when "equal" provide significantly more USABLE LUMEN to the plants.
Two. Because A 1K hps unit will kick out 150k+ lumen (when new) that 13% will also penetrate further than the cfl's, so if you don't know how to scrog or lolipop, yea you'll have popcorn below 20" for sure.
Three. Cfl's should be placed much closer to plant than hps, but I'm sure many people don't do that.

Now the 1400 watt unit (i used those and I'm upgrading to the newer 2000 watt units) has 22,400 in USABLE lumen vs the 20k in the hps, and yes the hps will still penetrate farther, but guess what...by scrogging and/or lollipoping I can still get the big yields. And at the end of the day, who's really smoking the bud that's three feet down the plant...not me..I don't have any foliage to have buds down that far. When I was new indoor grower, I grew my plants like I did outdoors without much stress or lollipoping, just a lot of pinching and inside growth cleaning, and I still got OK lower bud from my cfls.
So to use cfl's your going to want more than the equivalent, by 40 or 50% at least, AND you'll want to lollipop and/or scrogg while keeping your lights close.
Do those things and you can save money over hps and still have big yields of tight heavy flowers that rival hps yields.
Also, powerful cfl systems are also bomb for auto-flowering and sea of green (short veg) growing for quantity.

Key question: Ask your self...If you really got 150k lumen from HPS lights than why cant you outgrow the sun or even close, since that would be several times the amount of Lumen the sun provides? But man that would be awesome if that was true..they would be a steal! I'd love to harvest 5 or 6 lbs from a indoor plant!

Answer: 87% of that light is in spectrum's that do nothing beneficial to your plant at all.

Closing: Not to say hps lights are shit..they are defiantly not shit. They just aint "the shit" either. Its all about using whatever you use properly and to its fullest capacity.

Check this video. He used two 2000 watt cfl units over 4 plants in 2 gallon buckets (hydro) in a grow box. They yielded 269 grams..not the greatest, but not bad for 3 weeks in veg and the bud was frosty, tasty, tight..super tight, and potent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na22auCQEZo

Make one... $1.00 for two way spliters at cheapo depot. The reflector is cool but looks like it would be tough adjusting the lights to be as close as you need to all your girls. Doesn't seem to be much to it and I can't see how it would equal a 1000 watt HPS in any way. :D

I use CFL's cause they were cheap to get into. If I'm gonna drop a couple of bills it's gonna be for a two bulb HID package. I don think that I have more than enought invested in CFL's that I could have bought a couple of cheap 600 watt lights. Cfl's just STARTED cheap.

2000watt equiv=920 real watts. Yeild was 269grams which makes it about 0.3grams/watt with CO2, going big with cfls just doesnt seem worth it.
