Most of the shit that gets stirred in the middle east stems from two items, our relationship with the Saudis and our relationship with Israel most of the region would still be a sand dune if we had not discovered oil there and purchased it from them.

We have nukes, that is the only means we have to "crush the enemy". After a decade of occupation in Afghanistan, the Taliban is still there and the US economy is on the brink of exhaustion. They know it too, this is exactly how Zhukov defeated the Nazis. In fact it is a perfect parallel because the US supplied the Russians the same way Iran and Pakistan are supplying the Taliban just to keep the US spending.
