Looking good Trousers! How tall does your autos usually get and yield (dry)?
I have only grown autos one time, besides the seed crop. I grew 4 under a 600 watt hps. 2 SLH and 2 Pineapple kush.
They all got close to 3.5 feet. The SLH yielded 5 and 6 ounces. The pineapple was about 1.5 ounces each. That was consistent with the breeder info.
The description for SLH actually said something like 'up to 100 grams' which we easily passed. This was actually done at a friend's house. He is a bit of a slacker, so I suggested autos. He probably would have killed regular plants. I was so impressed with the quality, ease of growing etc that I decided to do a seed crop. That was done in a friend's shed with a t5. Those plants were less than 30". They were of course infested with seeds. It was tough conditions in the shed. In the daytime it could hit 90+ in there. The autos don't care.
All the auto seeds that resulted have been planted. None have gone over 24". These are all outside plants, planted in July. I believe they will be a bit taller if grown inside. They are all Lowryder2 crosses. We will see on the yield. I am not expecting much from the plants I sprouted in late July.
I just built a greenhouse. Next year I will have probably grow two autos at a time starting in March and going through November. As soon as my friend picks his outdoor plants, he is going to plant 12 autos. He plans on putting them outside in the day and then in his shed (the seed crop shed) at night under a t5. he is waiting because of medical plant counts, he can have 12, and the police have been watching him. (stupid cops, go worry about someone doing something illegal, instead of growing plants).
Also, sidebar question. If I only have one Autoflower seed (assuming its viable). Can I just isolate and spray one branch at around day 14 to day 28 (once daily) so that pollen will just be on the one branch? Then take that pollen off dry it a bit (not sure how long) then crush it to a bit of powder then use a paintbrush to brush that powder onto the pistils from the rest of the SAME one plant (no clone or second plant involved)? The branches that were not sprayed with Tiresias Mist?
That is a tough one. I have found that trying to self a plant may be a bit tricky. I don't really know. When I sprayed my auto, it had a two week head start.
You can definitely save pollen. If you only spray part of the plant, it will self eventually, but you may have to let the bud go much longer than you would if you planned on smoking it. You may want to google saving/freezing pollen. I use some desiccant to dry it out. I have some auto pollen in the freezer but I do not know if it is viable.
I think most plants need about 4 weeks to develop seeds. It is possibly less with autos. I didn't really keep track on the seed crop. I didn't care about buds, just seeds. I think the first plant was cut down at about 75 days. We let the seeds form until they were falling out of the buds.
If you self a plant the resultant seeds would be F1, basically clones of the plant in seed form.
How long after 14 days of misting the one branch does it take to see te pollen sacks? Or should they be there after the 14 days of spraying and you can start to dry and use that right away on the rest of the one plants pistils?
The part that is sprayed will be a bit stunted. It will show pollen sacks a little while after the rest of the plant shows hairs. They will seemingly take forever to open. If you want a seed crop, leave the branches on the plant. you can still collect pollen. Once they open you can just hold paper under the branch and shake it.
Do you think because it's an Autoflower seed, the ability for everything to be dialed in is much harder. Because of its shorter life cycle.
No. I have been growing regulars for almost 4 years. I am just starting to get good at it. My first go at autos was under pretty bad conditions, with a drunk guy mixing fert and watering and heat issues and the yield was still great. I think the shorter life cycle is a benefit and the plant may develop seeds faster because it is an auto. I'm still learning, so I'll be following your progress.
Maybe I'm just over thinking it too much. But that's what happens when you play the waiting game lol. Thanks Trousers!
STICKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You'll be fine.
Save some pollen for later, then you just paint it on one lower branch.
Remember, when you are trying to make seeds if you fail you get a bunch of pot.
