High humidity in glass jars. Help please

Hi Folks I dried my Hash Bomb plant now for a approx 6 days in the living room with the window open for a few hours a day and the buds are nice and dry and crispy. But not too crispy. I have now put them in glass kilner jars with a hygrometer in there and the humidity in there goes up to 70 - 80%. I can't dump them out for another day as the buds are dry enough. Shall I just leave it and open the jars every day for 10 mins until fully cured? I've heard perfectly cured buds in jars would show about 55% humidity or is this wrong?

First, 70-80% is a huge range. 80% I would pull them out of jars for at least another day. 70% I would just leave the jars open 12 hours, closed 12 hours. A day or 2 of that should get them around 65%. I try to land at 64-65% within the first couple days of being in jars, that's where it's been said that curing really starts, and there's no risk of mold. Once they're around there, burp once a week/month/whatever. The longer you take getting down to 55% from 65%, the better cure you'll have.

Just realised that in the jar I have stuck some orange zest in there. I peeled that two days ago and put that in the jar, I take it that those bits of peel could have an affect on the humidity.

Don't add that crap to the jar dude...let them cure on their own, adding humidity does nothing. You want the full flavor and taste of the plant. It cures from the inside out! Just keep burping the jar and take the orange crap out! Good luck!

To be honest Hash Bomb has been a bit of a let down to grow. Its smell is not strong enough and it is definately a weed for medicinal purposes. I added the orange peel to give it more smell as I feel the results have been a waste of the last 3 months.

Why on earth are you putting a hygrometer(humidity gauge) in the jars? Don't do this, it's not necessary.

6 days of dry is fairly dry for most buds in most conditions, I usually go 7-10 days in 75 degress 60% humidity room with a slight breeze from fan not directly on buds.

When you do begin cure in mason jars just burp the jars every 6-8 hours for 30 minutes a time the first 72 hours. From day 4-7 maybe every 12 hours fro 20 minutes, and after 7 maybe every 24 for 10 and after 10 days every other day for 10 and after that every 2-3 days for 10.

It's not rocket science and using a hygrometer is completely unnecessary.

I agree that it is not rocket science but for someone new it gives them a visual of where the buds are at without guessing. I do not use hygrometers either but I wish I had when I started so I wouldn't have screwed up my dry/cures on a few occassions. What works for one person in their environment can be disastrous in someone elses environment.

I have done about 10 grows before and cured my harvest many times but just lately I admit I have rushed it and the end result has been damp smelling produce. Just trying to do this right this time. Looks fine so far.

You know your not a pussy if you use a hygrometer, I use them. Well thats not a good example but you can still use them if you want. Its a tool at your disposal doing its job, why wouldnt you use it. It tells you something you need to know. I have them in every room and four little one for jars and will get a couple more. I might put one on a key chain who knows.

I use a hygrometer for cure also, what better way to know exactly what your humidity is at ? I don't know why someone would say not to use it, it's a good tool to use, between 55% to 60% is a good goal to reach, as said get rid of the peel that's what's bringing you humidity up.

All good IF your hygrometer is calibrated. They are notoriously bad. I use 2 and check them not only both against each other but also annually do the wet salt method to check them.

I'm not sure calibration is that important, as long as the goal you reach for gives the dsired results. Wether what your hygrometer reads. say if it rreads 55% and you're not satisfied with the results,say too moist, go for 50% or 45% and so forth 'till you get what you're looking for, that will end up as you final goal....just my opinion.

Orange zest out! keep hygrometer in! I have cured many jars without but I love using the hygrometer knowing exactly were mine stands. Also gives you an Idea what buds texture and feel when At a 60-65% or 55% towards a 6-8month cure is usually were mine ends up. Anyway thehole ur way may work but don't mean itll work for him. I have had many plants dry diff cause of density or size so its all down to feel not exact science. Unless you have a hygrometer.
One time I never burped a jar after I hit 65% and 6months later knock your socks off so burping all the time is for the birds if you ask me.

I always use hygrometers to cure....takes the guess work out of it. I could probably do it easily without them but it just makes it that much easier.
