I checked out that link to that seed co. That bud dude has in hand is huge. I love the cherry tomatoes. Grew some last year and they were ripped and shredded by a hail storm. After a week or so they healed their wounds and grew like no other cherry tomato plant Iv seen. I think they were FIMed by the hail. The overall crop was about 4x more than years before. I'm concentrating on my Triple Crown blackberries and my raspberries this year. Growing out here takes a lot of work,the soil is shitty and it is dry and hot you valley boys have it made as far as soil and growing conditions for veggies. How far do you keep your light off the canopy? I saw something several pages back about proper spacing and phototonics or whatever that is. Right now I'm about 9 or 10 inches off canopy but Iv have noticed some weird stretching that I didn't like when I go much higher. Or is that stretching just super rapid growth that I usually don't see and the rest of the plant will catch up? Do you think that using a T-5 for my clones and other small plants is holding them back? I guess what I mean is I saw that Indagro video and Daryl was talking about plants using more of the light after three generations? What do you think of that?

hey all!

first things first, and so here's the new video update! the 3rd 420 arrived yday, and for now it's up in bloom. i love it, but i think i am gonna need to reconfigure some ventilation... we'll see...

Well dip my balls in buttermilk and put me in a kitchen full of kittens! A third light! You are full of surprises. My guess is you probably go back to two but it this should prove interesting. At least what I've become accustomed to is tightening up the canopy:lamp spacing to 12-18" at around 10 days prior to harvest but you know what...I'm just watching how this one turns out super spliff. Always learning and always a pleasure bro!

i'm using it outside on the Blue Dream, and tonight is night 3 of it. i have it come on from 8pm to 10pm, but have been missing her photo opps, until today... the wife and i are heading out for dinner, but then i'll be able to post the pics i took earlier today out there. even some pics of my big ole cherry tomatoes!

in any event, tonight is the first 10 hour night in my parts, and the night of Sept 25th will be the first 12 hour night. it's supposed to put plants "to sleep" (phytochrome switch, not actually changing levels of consciousness :wink:) in minutes rather than the typical 2 hours. in theory that allows the plant to perceive 12 hours on a 10 hour night, etc. the inverse of that is that indoors, it should be able to manipulate the plants so that they will take 14/10 as if it was 14/12. depending on how she takes to this experiment, i may be able to free up the FI for use indoors, or i may have he want to keep it on the one outside. time will tell...

ok, everyone -=o) i just finished the new thread on the flower initiator... time to post a few previously promised tomato pics!


these are "Golden Nugget" cherry tomatoes, and they are still growing. the 2nd pic here really makes me smile... that lead would typically be sterile, used for increasing the gas exchange for the plant. instead, it went ahead and bloomed on that sucker, and then as the fruits started to develop, it went and grew "elbows" to rest that limb on, so the fruits stay off the ground.

these things get watered a gallon each, by hand, maybe once a week (on especially hot days, when i see leaf wilt). and they only got fed one dose of my AACT brew that i made up about a month ago, all else has been water.

to be honest, i was wanting to put the new 420 in veg, so that i can start getting the next round of tent-bound girls pumped up faster, but the veg room is small, and has poor ventilation... just a dual-fan window fan thing on exhaust... i tried adding the 420 to the 2 200s in there already, but after an hour it was really warm... i opted to put it in bloom at that point, as that room can take the extra heat with just ventilation. i also added light CO2 supplementation, so the extra lumens shouldn't go to waste.

as things were previously, i was certainly noticing how the OL was making those big beautiful nugs that were so big and shapely despite the further distance to the lamps. that hinted that i should try raising the lamps - especially once the 3rd went in and the mover was taken out of the equation (didn't have a 2nd slave trolley). time will tell how things will stay in the long run, but for the tail end of the 2nd day as it is now, they sure look happy.

What do you mean by adding "light" co2 supplementation.......just a minor increase in PPM's/or am I misreading this?.........And how are you gonna deal with the extra 420watts/btu's of heat in the room if the exhaust is off due to the co2???? .........nice video update spliff

i got a fresh Exhale bag camping out behind the tower fan in the back middle of the tent...

i also mitigate a lot of the heat by having lights on from 8pm to 8am. the past couple days have been over 100, and today is going to be just as hot... but then we're in for a solid week of daytime temps in the 80s. i also have a couple portable A/C units that i can utilize if i need to, one that has closed circuit airflow for exchanging the heat out the window; using that would allow for heat suppression while not pulling the room air out the window. i'm still up in the air with how it's all going to settle in tho... so far i've made it thru the 100s so far this week without needing the A/Cs. also, the exhaust turns off with the lights, to keep the night air in during the day. the thera-pure filter keeps cycling room air into the tent to keep it pressurized and then that feeds back into the room via a single open duct port.

in the long run, i am hoping to get the new 420 into veg, tho... and with the MP coming out of the tent within the next 2 weeks... well.. we'll see :wink:

Not trying to be an ass, just putting it out there, but those exhale bags have been proven to be worthless.......Check the amazon.com reviews of it/ guy tested it with a ppm meter, he was only able to bring the ppms up to 1000 by putting it in a sealed 5gallon bucket(lol)......only way to effectively bring up your ppms is with a tank/reg combo or candles(wouldn't recommend in your size room)/ or a small caged pet(gerbil/hamster/rabbit/etc.), but you would introduce fecal matter into the grow room/bringing multiple problems with it

Had no idea they made closed circuit portable AC's(how's it drawing the heat off the compressor??)............gotta check that out..........good luck spliff/ be safe and happy growing:)

edit: forgot about propane/natural gas generators, but you know all this.......damn I always wanted one of those water cooled generators when I had the larger rooms/f@cking sweet

as for the Exhale, i got it at cost and had been wanting to test it out... my main concern was that i had 5 big mommies chillin in a room that had no real sink for the extra oxygen they were putting in there. in any event i figure that it's gotta be better than nothing... i appreciate your input on it none the less. :smile:

the A/C has 2 five inch flex ducts on the back; when the compressor cycles on, one draws air in from the window panel and the other exhausts that hot air out the window panel. then the unit draws room air in the back and blows it out the top; 2 separate air paths.

so ya, it hit 110 today; 82 in the tent with lights off (our house doesn't have A/C). i ended up going in the room in the dark, blind monk style and hooked up the above mentioned A/C unit. 2 hours later it was 76 in the tent and it's holding since the lights came on 75 minutes ago, and i even turned on the dehumidifier since the RH crept to the 60s during the day too...

tomorrow and for the next week the forecast is 20 degrees cooler so i don't expect to have to use the A/C much more if at all.

the girls are looking very happy with the new light in the tent, too. since the girls in veg all want water tonight, i'll probably post another video tomorrow or sunday... :wink:

Sorry to pop in like this but i've been reading this for 3 days now lol. Mad props spliff. Fitst i'm a straight noob who's been doing research for months now for my future first grow, and i had my mind set on led but after reading this i might go with 3 420s or 400s 1 for veg 2 for bloom. I had a question for spliff, i've been watching ur vids and noticed u have 5 plants in 4x8 and was curious what yield are u expecting, i mean an estimate ofcourse. Oh and what advice on mother keeping do you have. Thanks in advance. Again mad props.
