Noob needs some advice on medical MJ

Hello All,

I'm in the process of getting my medical marihuana card in the state of Michigan. I got all my paperwork filled out and whatnot--all that's left is to send it. My only concern is that right now I'm a graduate student and in my field it is very likely that I will end up applying to jobs at government run laboratories. I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not medical marijuana patients are discriminated against when applying for government jobs? I would not want this to impede my ability to get a job and I'm a little worried that going through with this might be a career killing decision.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

K

More so in government positions because the government views mary jane as a class controlled substance in the same category as heroine. I have a friend that smokes but quit for a while since he has been working in the VA as a war vet counselor. And now he is up for his raise so he quit again. Basically what he did make sure he could get in the door in a clean way and once he got in he smoked again. You could go that route if you choose to still some risk involved especially if you got hurt in the workplace.

Pretty hard to predict how mj will go.
Hard to predict how our government will go.

I wish you the best of luck. The way I look at it, the more government workers there are that use mj the better.

Somebody help me out here, if a person wanted to avoid registering all together, they can receive section 8 defense if they have a valid doctors rec thats current within 90 days? So in theroy if you had a docs rec every 89 days one could take a dash at not registering. If caught you'll likely be off to trial, at least a hearing to ask for things to dismissed. Just saying for a person who had their ducks in a row, they could do a little extra to protect their privacy.

Honestly I typed out that I would post paperwork and roll with it. But I didnt' want to advise to break law. lol. Plus if OP has to fight this in court, that may minimize chances of government job.

You would then fall into percentage that gets worked over by government, not percentage that works for government.

Well your mmj card will not be protected by Hippa now because it is issued by Lara.
That was a sweet and brilliant move to avoid what the people voted in going too far into the medical arena. that should have been fought much harder in the first place, it was clearly the health department that was suposed to do that for the reasons you state they are skirting. should it have been done the way we wrote it I feel hippa would have applied and therefore killed all this fear of someone finding out as it would have been a stiff violation with stiff penalities. now it's like a liscense for anything else, no biggie for secrecy, exact oposite of the purpose of the bill. it was all about PROTECTION OF THE PATIENT and LARA gives a giant shit about that and my medical conditions staying between my doc and me!

Remember that having a card means nothing when it comes to employment. They can and will discriminate against you if they find out you have a card, which I can't imagine how they can do unless there is a bigger conspiricy of access to the list. Also you will be subject to random tests by the government, and they do it often, and you're all done if you fail, just food for thought.

Congrats on getting an extensive education, good shit.

I think if Romney gets elected with his very anti-mmj sidekick Ryan, you'll see a whole new fed crackdown against mmj legal states. If the arab wins again we might have less to worry about on the mmj side of things but everything else in the country is fucked.

Believe me brother the fight hasn't even begun yet. There are some sneaky sum bitches that have been elected to represent us. Good thing there are some lawyers around who are patients and have there cards and hopefully will read through the lies and carefully worded "Expletive!" that keeps power in the wrong hands. I can't understand why enough of us cannot get together on anything and fight back. We need to take power away from government and make sure it never gets back in there hands. Revolution?
