Even several well placed rounds to center of mass would have knocked the guy off his feet.

".40 S&W - 180gr = 968 fps muzzle velocity with 375 ft. lbs. muzzle energy.

9mm - 124gr = 1,181 fps muzzle velocity with 382 ft. lbs. muzzle energy."

Muzzle energy doesn't drop you - it's momentum, i.e. mv and not ½mv². The excess energy is wasted on inelastic events like deformation of projectile and target. Wanna drop somebody? Large slowish projectile, e.g. 45/70 or 12-gauge.

Muzzle energy doesnt drop you either
That would either be hydraulic or CNS
in other words
you either bleed out
or get shot thru the head

Gunbroker is absolutly legit
The cons are
will your local fun shop take the order without charging you major money for the transfer
unlike your local fun shop
You got problems with your firearm
You cannot just bring it back

Absolutly take up the owner on his offer to take a test drive
Make sure when you buy some reloads to flash some cash so he know's you aint just kicking the tires
Good to hear they're legit. For the slap in the face it would be to fire the owners gun and then ask him to transfer without getting the sale accompanied with the lack of local service, i think i'll deal face to face. Even if it costs a little more.

And it's funny as hell that you mention reloads because that's what i was going to ask if i could run through it. Semi-wadcutters to be exact in order to suss out any feeding problems.

I'm not a fan of 1911s although i have fired a few in my time
I did rent a kimber once, really nice and way less recoil (different) than a .40
actually the only advantage I can see in a 40 is more rounds
Speaking of .40 here is a DEA agent shooting himself

APRIL 11--A Drug Enforcement Administration agent who stars in a popular online video that shows him shooting himself in the foot during a weapons demonstration for Florida children is suing over the tape's release, claiming that his career has been crippled and he's become a laughingstock due to the embarrassing clip's distribution.
Lee Paige, 45, blames the video's release on DEA officials in an April 7 federal lawsuit filed against the U.S. government. A copy of the pro se complaint by Paige, a DEA agent since 1990, can be found here.
According to the lawsuit, Paige was making a "drug education presentation" in April 2004 to a Florida youth group when his firearm (a Glock .40) accidentally discharged. The shooting occurred moments after Paige told the children that he was the only person in the room professional enough to carry the weapon.
The accident was filmed by an audience member, and the tape, Paige claims, was turned over to the DEA. The drug agency, he charges, subsequently "improperly, illegally, willfully and/or intentionally" allowed the tape to be disseminated.
As a result, Paige--pictured at left in a still from the video--has been the "target of jokes, derision, ridicule, and disparaging comments" directed at him in restaurants, grocery stores, and airports. Paige, who writes that he was "once regarded as one of the best undercover agents, if not the best, in the DEA," points to the clip's recent airing on popular television shows and via the Internet as the reason he can no longer work undercover. He also notes that he is no longer "permitted or able to give educational motivational speeches and presentations." (5 pages)

My wife handled the RI 1911 also(since she will have access to it. EVERYONE in the house should be familiar with all firearms in the house imo). SHE says it would make a good boat anchor lol.

I highly recommend a shotgun for the house
just the way i am

And no I am not into that "they will run when they hear you racking it" kind of retard

A 12 guage with 00 buck is like shooting someone 9 times with a 9mm all at once
They wil not overpenetrate so less chance of hitting someone in another room
And back to that hydraulic thing
Besides shock to the body
A person tends to bleed out really fast
Make sure you get a light or can mount a light on anything you get
Nothing better than blinding your intruder before you shoot him
and it makes identification in that split second much better than trying to judge a silhoettes body size to that of a family member

Excellent advice imo. We have a couple shotguns in the house but they are hunting guns instead of tactical (an 870 Wingmaster Magnum Express, a Winchester model 12 *collectors item*, and an H&R 20 ga. 00 buck is a GREAT choice for home defense imo. i load my 870 00, slug, 00, slug, 00.

You are wrong
They are all tactical
A hand gun is something you use in an emergency to get to your rifle or shotgun

And IMHO
Skip the slug
unnessary overkill
and you have more chances of missing
Although a HIT would be pretty devastating

Granted, ALL weapons can/are be tactical. Tactical in my mind is a mindset, not a gun. But i'm talking about a long barrel, no pistol grip, no mag extension, etc. A walking stick is hard to sneak around the corner with. As for using the handgun to get to the shotgun, you are right again. But while i might WANT to get to my shotgun while providing my own cover-fire, i would much rather pop 2-3 into the vital area to begin with :)

The slug/00 rotation comes from my leo background. Against a human, you are correct. Against a human with body armor, through a door/wall, through an engine/car during a firefight, i would want the slug option.
