CFL Stealth Box veges and herb

Yes ma'am, that's the indica.

I like a good mix between the two, for back and knee pain/anxiety but I also like to smoke a bowl before I head out and do yard work and such. Maybe I should let her ripen a little bit longer and leave my sativa to take care of the head part lol. I actually did pull a piece off from near the bottom of the stalk the other day, however I failed to properly test it, as I was already medicated and just wanted to taste of it. SHAME ON ME, but I couldn't resist :(. My current plan is to just wait til all the pistils are orange and I'll probably give her another test. If it seems just right I'll chop her down and get to dryin.

Another quick question, how important is airflow when drying? I planned to just hang my buds from clothes hangers in my closet (I won't have to worry about smell when it comes that time) but unsure if the lack of any airflow in my closet would cause mold or something. I know my box would be too much air flow and cause them to dry unevenly, any other suggestions?
Waiting till the pistils are all orange sounds like a good plan. Should be a good pain-killer by then! Like you said, the sativa will surely take care of the head so let the indica soothe the body and anxiety. As far as the airflow, I remember I grew an autoflower in my tent with two other NON-autoflowering strains so the auto was done/chopped sooner than the rest and I could not dry all of my girls together. I rigged a cardboard box with about three rows of string and hung the buds in the box. I left a small crack open in the box for air to get through, and I placed the box in the back of my laundry room's storage closet in total darkness. To mask the smell I burned oils in the laundry room and even poured some oil on a rag to place inside the back of the laundry room closet. Absolutely no fan was used and my buds dried nicely over about a week to 10 day's time. I kept a really close eye on them though, checking at least two to three times a day to make sure nothing ever smelled moldy or anything, and they were fine. Since you are hanging yours in an open closet, I believe they'll do fine as well. Just keep an eye on them like I know you will ;-). Looking forward to seeing how much you get off that indica and reading about how she smokes when you are NOT already medicated! LMAO.

Hey bro, we ALL do shit with our grows that makes us say "SHAME ON ME" ... even those of us who have more than one grow under our belt ... ESPECIALLY when we are medicated!! I did some shit in my garden yesterday while medicated that was just crazy as f*** ... simply could not stop f**kin' with one of my plants til' I ended up inadvertently topping her and and bent her to where I now have her propped up against a stick so she can heal herself. Knew I was f'in with her too much but was just trippin' ya know? Fortunately I don't freak out about this type of stuff 'cause I've seen how these babies bounce back, but still ... being loaded while working with/training plants is something I know better than to do! LOL! Part of the grow journey man ... you've done great by your ladies though ... I'm sure the reward will be worth it all. Okay ... you know I get chatty as hell when I'm medicated. Let me go to my journal and update.

Much grow love :eyesmoke:

In a bit of a rush, so I'll fully reply later on lol. But I tried out a small nugget from the top of one of the skimpy secondary growths last night. Went straight to my head and stomach, visuals and music appreciation paired with instant munchies. The flavor tasted of blueberries and the ash came out white.

But for now, I go take a cat nap with a stomach full of delicious garden grown veges :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the rule of thumb for corn is tassels by 4th of july.. welp, I'm a few days ahead of schedule lol. Also have already plucked about 6 monster zuchinnis and have a nice pot of garden beans cookin up right now:lol:

LOL! Sounds like a little piece of heaven on your end right about now. Glad that taste was righteous for ya so you know what you are in for when you harvest and cure. My outdoor garden is suffering a bit due to the heat. It is SWELTERING out here! I really have to devote a lot of time to her to get some fruits. I mean watering a couple of times a day and everything which means I have to get out in the overwhelming heat! But ... there's nothing like a belly full of your own home-grown fruits and veggies. So ... guess I won't complain. Stay blissful man!

Much grow love

for my 1st ever post

followed this thread from start to now and i must say i am impressed with what i've seen/read....Good job dude! am glad your getting your much earned reward after taking care of those babies lol.....I have no experience whats so ever in growing Herbz, but i'd like to think its pretty much common sense after doing some kind of research on how to do it....So like about a month ago (roughly), i decided to throw like 10 random seed's in for germination and by a week later, they all sprouted..... been unexperience i thought by puttin like 3 seeds in each pot would be a good idea. now i've learnt that this could be bad as the roots would get all tangled up during veg stages and all sorts could occur.....over the month i've killed off 3 small plants purposly just to make room (hopefully that decision doesnt bite me in my ass).....i am not using any type of lighting apart from natural sun from the window sill (window left slightly open so there is air circulation), and been from the UK, we dont get much of good weather......some plants now are taller and seem to be advancing more than others....all i use for FEED right now is Tomato feed product (with seaweed extract in it), i've used it twice in small dose's in the space of a month and water when surface looks dry every 3/4 days....Soil i got from a field while walking my dog i day lol, will change that up once i re-pot them and the plants have started to show sex!.....

so my question is.....(might sound stupid but hey am here to learn) lol

does the plants have to be on a 12/12 for the plant to show its sex?
should i re-pot the plants into individual pots now or wait till that stage?

cheers and any feedback much appriciated

Hey Herbalis!

Glad you decided to dive in and do your first grow! Growing our precious herb can be addicting so be prepared! LOL! The roots develop and spread really fast during veg so you should really give each plant its own post as soon as you can -- don't wait until 12/12 (flowering). And yes, unless your plants are autoflowering strains you will not know what the sex is until you force the 12/12 cycle or it occurs naturally when the seasons change. This is from my own research and experience but there may be someone with may more than me who says differently. I don't think so though ... that's pretty much the natural order of the way our herb grows.

Happy growing and much grow love. BTW ... have you thought of doing a private journal on here so we can follow you along your grow journey?

thanks for the input dude, will have to sort that out pretty soon i suppose!

ohh and about the private journal, not to sure on how to go about it as this is my second post altogether......sorry in advace if am breaking rules lol

As far as I know you are not breaking any rules nor are you trying to take over this thread so ... I would think all is well ... Ekofux (the thread starter) will let you know if he has issue with any of your posts. Anyways ... to start a private journal as opposed to a whole new thread, you just log in and click the " Grow Journals" tab listed right under the sites logo. It will take you to a page of "Recent Journal Posts. On the right side near the top of that page you will see a "Create New Post" button. Click it and it will take you to a page where you can post an entry and that first entry will be the start of your journal/blog. Would love for you to upload pics there so we can take a look!

Much grow love from this "chic" ... not "dude" LOL!!! Yah man, I'm a girl :bigjoint:

Damn bro, she's lookin' pretty frosty! I'd still probably go a wee bit longer to try and get the most out of the wattage you are using. Which BTW is producing some pretty impressive results. Makes me wanna experiment by keeping mine under the T5s for the entire grow and just switching out the bulbs! That way I won't have the heat issues or slight rise in electricity that comes with the 400 watt setup. I'm just greedy when it comes to bud size though ... you know how us girls think -- size matters  j/k. You've inspired me yet again my friend. Your girl is looking just about ready. At this point, since you have tested her, it's just a matter of what YOU like. If she gave you the buzz you most enjoy, chop her down! She may swell a teenie bit more in the next week but again, in all seriousness, it's not about the size of her at this point, it's about the smoke. That's what is going to matter most at the end of the day.

LOOKING REALLY GOOD man. I haven't followed many CFL grows from start to finish, and I don't think I have EVER followed one that only had TWO cfls for the entire grow! Good job ... I'm really impressed. Looking forward to see what she yields for you wet/dry.

Well guys and girls.. it happened.

Due to personal matters (nothing that needs to be brought here, just serious personal matters and reasoning) I've chopped my indy down and not been around to update about it. Sativa's still in my box and busy using up all the extra wattage.

I cut my indica down on July 4th, having tested it and approved the taste and buzz. Only took about 3 days to dry all of it, used the small secondary buds to squeeze together and just make one little brick nugget. Had to chop the main cola in half to fit in the jar. I'm currently on the first burping of curing, and if you can't tell by my ramblings, I just smoked a nice little pinch. Shit hits you hard I'm tellin ya lol. It feels like it goes STRAIGHT to my head, but still has the undertones of relaxation. In other words, it's perfect for all this summer yard work lol. The smell is great too. Very earthy, yet flowery and sweet. The curing I'm assuming will remove the earthy part of the equation, as it's improved on smell (and high) after just this first day of curing.

But anyways. I need a name for it, seeing as how I don't know what strain it is. Public domain to name what I want under said conditions, yeah? lol

Anyways, I'm out for the night. Peace and happy growin, take some pics with you;

EDIT: I don't have a scale so I can't give any of you a definite yield. Just take it as you may, call it what you want. Judging by my experience in buying, I'd guess it to be somewhere around .4oz. Wish I could tell y'all more definitely but that's the way she goes.

pistil color don't mean jack. the trichs are what matters. they must be eyeballed. a loupe or even better a USB microscope. pistils can be red and trichs all clear.

I'm aware they generally don't mean anything, but I'm on a very tight budget, as has been mentioned many times. So I can't afford a microscope and have to go with instinct and taking test buds off the plant.

Regardless, my indica is already harvested and perfect. The sativa still has a couple weeks.

I've followed you from day one bro and have to say, "well done". I still can't believe you got even that amount with only 2 freakin' CFLs! I'm definitely not going to bother with hooking up my 400 watt HPS for my flowering stage now. I've thrown my 2nd HO T5 light in the tent with the first one and between the two should do well for a personal grow without the extra heat control stress or electricity increase. You have made me a believer man! Throw up some pics of that sweet sativa when you get a minute. How much longer you think you're going to let her fatten up? Looking forward to seeing what she does and I'm glad you got some medicine of your own my friend. It's been a nice journey with ya and you are proof positive that we CAN grow our meds on a tight budget!

Peace and much grow love my brotha!

I appreciate the kind words, but I used 3 CFL's from about halfway into the grow. Of course I had 2 plants so the indica got the focus of 2 bulbs whereas the sativa I just let catch the rays off the third bulb. Next time I'm almost definitely going for scrog method with just one girl. I figure more light attention to a single plant would just be easier and better yield. I've quickly become a fan of CFL growing. Can only imagine how nice of buds I could get if I could afford like 6 or 8 good bulbs and a nice grow tent lol.

But I'll get some pics of the sativa up soon. She's just not that photogenic, with the browning leaves she has and all. It doesn't seem to be affecting the buds in any way though, shes fattening up her buds and forming lots of crystals, just doesn't look attractive. /shrug

EDIT: Pics have arrived

Here's the sativa alone under my 3 CFL setup, I need to give her a nice ugly name. Like Gertrude or Olga.. I'm open to input. lol

And for anyone who has any concerns about smoking buds grown with MG soil..

LOL!! Gertrude or Olga ... you're funny dude. As long as her buds and smoke are fine she should have just as pretty a name as any of your others
:-). I guess I'd either forgotten or totally missed that third CFL light mentioned throughout the grow; nevertheless, it's still a good grow for minimal lights. I started flowering my current grow last Wednesday (4th of July) and hooked up my 400w HPS as planned. During this hot/humid time of year I had to have my AC running on high non-stop, and STILL had to keep a close check on the temps in my tent/closet because in the late afternoon they'd spike into the low 100s. I was glad to see your outcome and after seeing your CFL results, and since I'm growing for me and my hubby's minimal private use, I took down the HPS a couple of days ago and am now flowering under two HO t5s with a mix of 6500k and 3000k spectrum. The babies love it and I know for sure that they are not being stressed out by heat even when I completely close up the tent and close the closet door. I hope you do another CFL grow soon and help more folks become believers. How much longer did you plan on letting the sativa go for?

Quick update.

Olga has a week or two left to go (ballpark) and I've got 5 new seeds in paper towel, 2 of which already sprouted. I saved these particular seeds from a nice stinky bag of a strong indica, so I should hope they turn out well.

This next grow I'm going to start with 5 seeds and hope to hell I've got at least one female. From there I will weed down to a single strong female, fertilize, focus all light strength onto it, etc. I figure one well taken care of plant is better than 2 fighting for light.

In other news, I've already almost smoked through my first harvest, and let me tell you.. it's hard to stop. Very tasty, piney but with a strong hit of skunk and a slightly spicy flavor when smoked. The high creeps up on you over time. I'll smoke a bowl of it, 10 minutes later I'll realize I'm enjoying some of the stupidest youtube videos and such. Good stuff lol

Anyways, I'm taking a break from smoking tonight (except my nightly bedtime bowl) to polish off a much craved pack of coors light. Take it easy fellow growers

Glad you got some more started already! Always nice to keep some medicine going at all times if you can. I like growing indicas 'cause they finish faster and, to me, look so beautiful with how stout and bushy they grow. I think you make a good point that one, single plant will do better under your lighting than two. Your smoke sounds delicious bro. You gotta be careful with those creeping kind of smokes 'cause you'll keep hittin' it and hittin' it thinking it's not doing anything and then .... BAM!! ... you're buzzed out of your mind watching "stupid YouTube videos" :eyesmoke:! That's way cool man, glad you are enjoying the fruits of your labor. Are you going to do a new thread for your current sprouts? If so, make sure to let me know ... I'm a fan. :-P:-P

Peace out for now man, and show us some final pics of Olga before you chop her down ... I wanna how much more she fattened up for ya!

Yup I'll be making a new thread for my new plants as soon as I chop Olga down. Speaking of which, I've got 3 already popped through the soil and opening their leaves after just a day in soil. I also stripped all the bad leaves off of the sativa. That's about it for any updates though. Take some pics:

Mesyu.jpghU9EO.jpglL5Bq.jpg

EDIT: Forgot to mention, Olga has been growing bursting buds with 4-8 hairs and buds coming out of buds. Pretty interesting to a newer herb grower like me. Also, you can see where she was neglected light on the lower portion.

Olga is looking good and sounded like she'll be good to go in a few more weeks. LOVE buds coming out of buds! LOL! Glad you are going to be doing a new thread on the up and coming babies ... looking forward to that. You stopped by my journal recently and I wanted to say thanks for the feedback. I'll respond here since I'm already here anyways! LOL!

I see the white hairs :D

I'm almost definitely going to do something similar to this scrog on my next grow. Does topping them usually result in more yield in such situations? Though I assume all the nutrients don't have anywhere else to go..
I really like the scrogging so far; I can tell it is going to help me make better use of the fluorescent lighting and help me produce more buds. Even if they are popcorn buds, there will still be more than if I had not scrogged. You asked about topping:Yeah bro, topping does yield more because depending on how/where you cut off one potential bud site, 2-4 more will grow in its place. See where I topped on this pic? (BTW, anytime I top it is always on accident during some sort of training but I am always pleased with the outcome!)

Photo07211158_1.jpg

Where there was only one shoot for a single bud, there are now two. It's almost like it's starting to grow a whole 'nother plant there! Topping also allows more light to the lower bud sites so that they can swell up and give you more weight. Hope you can see the pic okay 'cause I took it real quick with my cell phone; if not, I'll take another with the itouch.

'Til next time man, happy growing and toking! And don't you dare forget to PM me when you start your new thread!

Welp, we've reached the end of this thread. I cut Olga down on wednesday, not a large yield, but definitely a nice dense chunk from the main cola.

Not a whole lot to say at this point, I'll leave this thread up for now but I'll be starting a new one for my next grow shortly.

I'm also trying curing with a little bit more moisture than last time. My last buds seemed like they were just too dry to cure properly. Anways, pics

I'll post back later with new thread link and again later after that with smoke report.
