Those guys shoot back. It's much easier and safer to raid pot stores when going after federal scofflaws.

Fuck man we've all got to stand up and do something. They take the big dogs out...then they start going after counties and the state itself...until the mmj program is no more. You would think that there should be enough of us to do something.

We already are all standing up and doing something. Keep growing. Keep flooding the market. Keep teaching people how to grow and encouraging friends to get a card. They are already overwhelmed, it's why they're sending out letters instead of visits - they don't have the resources to prosecute all of us, or even close. If they did, believe me they would. There's over a million people in CA with a card...

"The U.S. attorney for Northern California, Melinda Haag, said she now found "the need to consider actions regarding marijuana superstores such as Harborside" because they presented unique opportunities for abuse."

So in other words they are "guilty without proof", so just shut them down?.................

I am more worried about the police, and prison lobbies than big pharma. Everyone gets all hung up on "big pharma" forgetting there are other industries and people making a lot of money from pot prohibition, and the war on drugs in general. Law enforcement (The entire industry, from the prison companies, to the uniform manufacturers) especially stands to lose a ton of money if cannabis is legalized.

The MMJ movement IMO has set back the legalization movement. Not only are recreationalists, who comprise the vast majority of cannabis consumers, forgotten about, but people are so focused on the medicinal scene they forget about the other groups who try to keep MJ illegal. My guess is that Obama has little to do with these crackdowns other than to look at the DEA and say "red light" or "green light" to their general activities. No, this crap is coming from the 4 US attorneys here in CA and the DEA higher ups. Also, don't forget that to the feds this is also an issue of possibly losing federal control and power to the states. And that is something they don't want to happen.

As for Harborside, well you knew it was going to happen. You don't go on TV and flip off federal authorities like the DEA or the justice department without repercussions. They are shutting down smaller dispensaries every day, there was no way they were letting the "worlds largest" dispensary slide by. It was only a matter of time.

Translation - We were j/k about having legitimate excuses to shut down clubs and are now just going to make shit up so we can kick down some doors.

Well in all fairness the U.S. attorneys, who are federal attorneys, do have a legitimate excuse... illegal at fed level. But I agree that they are dropping pretense and just kicking in doors and busting heads. This is one of the reasons why I think the bigger show down will be states rights vs. the fed. If we take this away from the central government it sets presidence for future actions by the states. That's the real war. The desire of the central gov to have more control of the states, versus the states and citizens desire to govern themselves locally.

This has been a pretty good discussion so far!

I called it about 2 mos. ago after visiting...very sad day. A huge domino...600 since last October. Remember this come November...Obama, you can go to hell (he just said last week that he wants to tone down the war on drugs).

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Popular-California-pot-shop-targeted-for-closure-3699720.php

What this means is he's going to continue shutting down pot shops but wants the media to stop reporting the story. It won't matter- it's more and more likely he won't win in November. Holder is now being investigated to be disbarred from practicing law too. Now if only Romney would call for total legalization, we'd be set.

If romney was pro pot, I would vote for the first time in my life...There are dozens of donors behind the pot crackdown...that is why marijuana has been illegal for so long..if there were marijuana lobbyists it would be all good...but the people who profit the most from marijuana like it illegal..the price stays high.

I wonder sometimes if the high prices, which are absolutely a benefit to the growers, dealers, and dispensaries, aren't just a side effect of prohibition and not actually intended effects.
