Fuck the negativity! I hate hate. :wall:

Keep us posted on how this goes. I for one am very interested. I'd love to someday have my own hydroponic garden for all my vegetables... especially curious what kind of yields you can get, that is, what the cost per pound of tomatoes ends up being, including power and nutes...

The tomato season in Michigan, where I am, is unfortunately short. I only get to enjoy fresh ripe homegrown tomatoes from July till September, three months tops. I'd love to have them growing in the kitchen year round so I never have to go without.

Do you have a big tomato mom somewhere? Interesting approach with the clones, I've never heard of anyone doing that with tomatoes. It makes sense though. Gardening outdoors I often see one plant vastly outproduce another.

What kind of tomatoes are you growing? If you haven't tried heirlooms, you need to. The storebought kind are hybrids that are bred for thick skins, durability, not flavor. The heirlooms are basically wild tomato strains from before these breeding programs. They don't last long on the shelf, and they don't truck well because they're so easy to split, but the flavor... let's just say I can't even eat hybrids anymore, the taste is sickening by comparison. Brandywines (bright red/pink tomato, with a bright, acidic flavor) and cherokee purples are my favorites (this one is rich, sweet, almost smoky, very very dark, literally purple). You can get a crazy amount of cherry tomatoes perpetually from "sun golds" too.

This is a Better Boy tomato plant, the mother plant I took it from is dead, it was my grandmothers outdoor plant that bugs got the best of, I took a cutting about a week before it died so I wouldn't have to spend more money, just to have bugs kill it again. This is my first attempt at a indoor hydro garden, and I got the idea from my first cannabis hydro grow.....which also gave me the idea of cloning. I've heard that the yield's are much better with hydroponic gardening, like 10 times, we will see.

With my new found hobby, I plan on starting a full indoor garden, starting my next project with some green bell peppers, cucumbers, and strawberry's. Someone also told me that lettuce was a great grow for hydro.

You know this negative asshole ( wanabe ) has no idea what this plant actually means for me, I was recently diagnosed with Diabetic peripheral neuropathy which prevents me from going back to work, or doing any strenuous labor, including outdoor gardening ( without terrible pain ). So rather then siting in front of a computer all day being a bitter asshole like him, I decided to be more productive.

Thank you for your support and :peace: HAPPY GROWING :peace:

Yikes, you're not using hydroponic nutes? I use Botanicare's line which is inexpensive, and gives amazing results. Only takes minor tweaking to get the pH at 5.8.

The closest grow shop is about a half hour drive, and I haven't had the time, but I plan on getting either foxfarm or advanced nutrient hydro nutes this weekend. My p.h is around a 5.8 or 6.0 with MG

i planted her last aug, and learned about res water temps as it was getting to 95F and once i fixed that she EXPLODED. i use General hydro Flora nova "bloom" and Aqua sheild . i follow the direction on the bottle for 950ppm and Ph my water to 5.8. she is drinking about 1.5 gallons every 2 days now! so i never have to do a res change i just add more solution.

good on you man for not sitting on your ass! there are plenty of useless people that choose to be useless! keep us updated on that mater!!!

RoguePlant, I highly recommend picking up Botanicare's hydro nutes. It's a much cheaper line than the FoxFarm or Advanced Nutrients stuff. The results are absolutely fantastic, too. It's a great formula, I have nothing but good things to say about it. I picked up a gallon of Botanicare 3-2-4 for about $30 and I only have to use a quarter cup of it when replacing the nute solution in 5 gallon DWC buckets.

It's one of the biggest things you need to get past when learning to grow. Most products on the shelves are a complete ripoff, marketed with absolutely absurd technobabble (I really don't know how anyone can take it seriously). And a lot of "secret tips" for growing are bullshit, too. All you have to do is keep the plant as healthy as possible, and then dry the buds as slow as possible without molding them. Everything else just wastes time, money, and adds complexity.

Those "Clearex" solutions are the worst I've seen. It tickts me off seeing that sold for $20 per liter when it says right on the lab that it's nothing but water and a spoonful of SUGAR! Again... marketing... growers are flush with cash and suckers, they're always stoned off their asses in the shop...

Again, I do use RO water, I think it's always a good idea to do so because then you don't have to worry about the amount of dissolved salts changing with the seasons (such as snow melt/runoff in the spring), or corroding pipes suddenly unloading a bunch of copper into the water. If the salts have been removed, you just need to add a bit of CalMag as well, and then you get completely consistent results.

From my experience, 5.8 is the ideal pH both for rooting and growing plants hydroponically, so it sounds like you've managed to stay right on target.
