build a pc or buy new one?

was thinking of building my second ever pc like actual computer. was really fun and outlasted two of my parents computer. either build a nice one for under 600 or buy a new laptop for around 500. as for the laptop i was looking into like hp's and some gateways, a lil dells but last one i had as a laptop took a shit right after warrenty was up. as for people who build their own pcs, how much you got in yours and once i get a list of the parts im goign to get ill throw it up here and let yall see what im gonna be running.(if i build my own which i might.)

i was thinking about trying to build a laptop but idk how hard that would be, but its been a while since i built one so imma have to refreh on what to get but once i get everything just need to program and bam leggo. hopefulliy will start build on the 20 of july, if not by the 5.

Build one all the way, i was looking at some bare bone laptops nothing tickled my fancy, if want power just go with a tower. ^^
built my rig for 827$ everything But monitor.
i5 2500k 4.5ghz on air 8gig ddr3 1600 , evga gtx 460 1gig oc 900core , 2000 Ram ,
im actuly about to upgrade my video card here soon not that it cant handle my games on 1080 just want that extra 10-20fps from my upgrade :D
games are BF3 maxd out mw3 , d3 , spec ops the line < just started this one. ^^ all smooth fps

no doubt build it. the great thing is not having to deal with all the crap software the pre built comps come loaded with! i built a HTPC for 650, but i added another HD and video card so its at about 850. and i have had it for 3 years and running great. could not tell you the specs off hand but its not the fastest machine but it plays movies in 1080 just fine. i have 3TB in it now.

Id say build if u have a hdd already. If not $600 is going to be tight with windows costing $150 alone.

Each time I buy a new computer I buy one that's built by someone who does, that way I can add the hardware I want and upgrade the ram as much as I want and soforth. As stated those you buy are loaded with crap you can't use and probably can't upgrade to your liking or have to buy there products.

We use Toshiba laptops and have not had a minutes trouble out of them. I am on the one that was bounced around in the company truck. I used to worry about a hard disk crash from the rough rides, but these have been rock solid. I would not buy anything else.

definately going to build one, and seeing as i chopped the tops on my plant they should be ready by paycheck so i dont have to waste my check of soem ganj. looking to spend just around 6-7 hundred. and if i dont get a monitar i can always hook it up to my tv via hdmi cables n such. its just time to upgrade and time to start looking for parts. been a while since i have done this so lets see how it goes.

I agree with build.

Make sure you have at least 2 hard drives too. One that stores windows, programs. The other that stores your photos, video, personal files, etc. And if you really want to be secure, get a external hard drive and put your personal stuff on there too as a backup.

I have seen so many people angry over their laptops because when they die, they are dead for good.
When a laptop dies you loose the trackpad(mouse), the keyboard , the screen, the case, the speakers, the charger, the webcam, the RAM, the hard drive, the optics(cd, bray, floppy... lol), the processor, the power source, the microphone, the wireless/broadband card... all things you can easily repair if you have a self built desktop pc.

My pc has died several times but the repair is never over 30 bucks, and if you want to keep it up-to-date then 100 bucks every year is more than enough.
I have a desktop pc that has become quite the Frankenstein, but its got all i need.
Be sure though to consider the specs of the motherboard/cpu/graph.card, because if you choose an expensive low-end motherboard then it will be hard to update later. Better to choose a cheap high-end mboard so you can easily update later, if not you will have to switch the whole mboard/cpu/gcard set.

oh and use linux ftw

good idea but I have myself switched my photos and files to a cloud storage! (also have Raid 0 striped, And a 1Tb storage drive) witch u can get free ones and ones you pay for.
cause we all know a external/internal drives Always fail someday :) "ones with important files at least"
