What's this about Oregon and the Plaque?

Saw the news tape on the bottom of my computer screen and all it says that the plague has been found in a human in Oregon. Nothing, more.

My other news feeds have nothing.

Geez, that would be a good name. lol. You had me rechecking to see if I spelled it with a q or g. Yeah, I have the plaque too.

Ummm plaque is that stuff on ur teeth, the plague is similar to that thing that was called the black death or bubonic plague. Or plaque is also the stuff that can cause clogged arteries and heart attacks.

yes, the plague is still around, although it's pretty limited to rodents and such in the us...

i watch a lot of the discovery health channel, and this uk couple went on vacation to nyc, where the older man caught and almost died from the plague, aka, the black death..

i'm sure you already know this cn, but it's called the black death as the skin dies and turns black as the disease progresses, aka, black death, as once your skin turns black, death is not too far away in most instances.. :)
I know. But I can just hear some doyenne of modern correct society asking us to please refer to it as Unfortunate Demise of Color or some such nonsense. cn

New Mexico has cases of Bubonic Plague almost every summer. Not to mention that my county was ground zero for the Hanta Virus outbreak many moons ago.

New Mexico has the highest domestic plague incidence with 65 of the 134 cases reported in the U.S. since 1990, according to a health department report.

I remember the hantavirus scare! Both borne by rodents and their fleas iirc. cn
Yep. They started calling it the Navajo Flu. Some restaurants and businesses refused to serve native people. Didn't matter if they were Navajo or not (like it mattered).

Nevermind what color the plague is...I have always been confused when people say they were robbed by a black man..we all know he was brown...lol

Speaking as a veteran of plague dos and don'ts. Stay away from wild animals during the summer. Never handle a sick wild animal with your bare hands (or at all for that matter). Never touch a dead animal (the fleas and other vermin will attach to the first warm body they come across). If you're cleaning out a shed or creating dust, wear a mask and gloves. Shower immediately when you're done. Stay away from wild animal dens/nests/holes/man caves. Never touch a dead animal until after the first snow. The last one I have no idea.. everyone just keeps repeating it. ::shrug::

No man-caves ... harsh. The first snow thing probably is a good mnemonic for the first hard frost, which will effectively knock back living parasitic vectors. cn

<edit> Masque of the Red Death. I ended up there after some intracranial five-bank shot about some racist reformulation of Navajo Flu. cn

that's pretty much what i was going to say to cn, the cold weather probably kills most of the pests that are known to transmit diseases..
