So I'm on week 7(planted seed may 1st, popped may 3rd) and my Northern Lights x Big Bud still hasn't showed any preflowers that I can notice. By Blue Mammoth has obvious pistils and was planted 3 days after the NL. Is this normal by week 7? I have alternating nodes.

Supposed to start flowering around week 3-4. You may wanna throw it in 12/12 to jump start flowering if it kept the photo pheno.

Yeah and if it starts to flower under 12/12 then it's kept the photo pheno. I've had a few autos that were still photo while it's sisters we're automatic. Just luck of the genetic draw.

WOW. This has been really helpful. Thank you so much original poster! Not sure why, but it seems like reliable info. I'm usually very skeptical about everything I read until it's confirmed, but the way your post was worded sure seems like you've had a fair amount of experience with autos. I'm on my first auto grow - and have been looking for some answers about when to switch to flowering nutrients.

I woke up today to see that one of my Nirvana Short Riders is starting to show pistils. I was excited and thinking maybe it's time to start giving her flowering nutrients, but according to your advice, I want to wait a couple more weeks to let her keep growing vertically. Then, I'll switch to flowering nutes, right? I have a link to my journal in my signature - it's not large scale grow - just a few plants for my own personal enjoyment. They're under a 250 Watt HPS air cooled hood in a small closet. IF you have time to swing by and check it out - some input would be nice. I know going start to finish under HPS isn't the best way to go, but they seem healthy enough. When I bought the ballast and hood - that's the only bulb my local shop had in stock. I went ahead and started them under the HPS, and by the time I bought a MH bulb, it seemed wrong to switch their light. Anyways - REP GIVEN for such an informative thread! THANK YOU>

@CHICO23 ... I agree with cloudz. While I'm far from an expert, it looks like you may have fed a little too strong with your nutrients. What kind of soil are you using? IF it is Miracle Grow - that may be the problem... I know you have to go with what you can afford, or what's available to you - but I would repot in some soil more suited to the plants we grow. Try one of the Fox Farm varieties. If your soil isn't MG, you may want to just flush really good and keep going. Remember, when flushing, you'll want to move the plant outside (or in the bathtub when you're old lady is not home, lol) - you'll want to use 3 gallons of plain PH balanced water for every 1 gallon of pot space you're using. 3 gal pot would need to be flushed with 9 gallons of water. You could also use a flushing agent like Ace of Spades, or Fox Farm "Sledge Hammer" to really break down the excess salts. Once flushed, replensish the soil with a bit of Cal/Mag and see how she does from there... hope that helps buddy. Maybe someone with more experience could chime in too...

I found that Fox Farm Ocean Forest can often be too hot be itself for seedlings. I'll be switching to Happy Frog or Roots Organic for my next grow. FFOF burned both my seedlings.

im doing my first auto grow (auto purple and auto skunk) im almost 2 weeks in and most of the seeds have sprouted but they are still all quite small, havent even reached a 2nd node. iv got them in a pc grow box with a single 42w cfl. is that enough light? also, when i bought the seeds, the store owner said i was starting kinda late since im doing an outdoor grow. (just starting them off indoors) its nearing the end of june and first frost will be by mid September leaving me around 60 more days. will that be enough time for a decent outdoor harvest?
btw, thanks for the great information, it is super usful. iv just herd mixed opinions on some of these things.

You want 100 actual watts per plant ericle. One 42w is enough for seedlings, but at week 2 you should be on node 4-5 at least. Yea, it's kinda late for outdoors if you just started within the past 2 weeks. I would put it under 1 more 42w wait until you get 4-5 nodes or more and then transplant into your outdoors location. Although you know the weather where you live better than I do, will you have enough light hours for the entire grow? For autos it's recommended you get at least 18 hours of sun. When the days start getting shorter your auto won't stop flowering, but will actually slow down it's growth rate.

60 days(8 weeks) will be cutting it really close. That's the minimum time your plants will need to finish and if you've only got 2 nodes by week 2 you're in for a much longer time than that. Possibly 70-80

I broke a 6" seedling at dirt level. It's too small to tape back together so I plopped it in a cup with an inch of water in the bottom and put it inside on a window sill. That was 3 days ago and it hasn't changed at all (no leaf colour/shape/feel change), was curious about what to expect. Is this just life support until it dies shortly or could it feasibly be weened back into a viable plant (perhaps with plant food added to water periodically i'm thinking)?

In the right conditions the stem can root. If you had some clone-ex you gould dip the stem and it may help. Other that that. It will die if it doesnt get roots. You should have dug down and taped the stems together where they broke. That shit can heal like a human bone.

Agreed, those plants are more durable than you think. Also if you're going to clone via water you need to change the water out everyday. You probably won't get anything viable from the "clone". It's going to take a few days to recover from the stress then it's going to take a week or 2 to grow decent enough roots and then the plant will begin growing again. Keep in mind the time it takes to recover is eating up the time the plant has for veg/flowering. If it takes 2+ weeks and your plant is at week 1 you've just lost most of your veg growth.

It's good that nothing has changed though. It means the plant isn't dying at the very least.

I'll give taping another shot. It is very awkward with its location and the fineness of the stem, hopefully it'll take.

If the stem is already completely disconnected it won't reconnect. Your best/only chance is to try to get it to root although like I said it probably won't work that well with an auto.

Wow excellent guys thanks heaps for the super fast response iam not using mg soil as I heard its not that great iam just using sum organic potting mix as I live down under and dont have fox farm products also Ive got sum seasol powerfeed and seasol seaweed fertilizer and only gave it a small dose which kind of helped it grow abit. in the pics I took i just transplanted them because they were root bound in the solo cups temps are around 83°F-79°F during day and mabey drops 10-16°F at night I had abit of a problem at the start with salt build up but I gave her a flush with phd water is it normal for a auto to be this small at almost 5 weeks cuz ib thanks fellow tokers
