First time with clones, think i messed them up.

So i got 9 clones from my local club. 4 Gods gift and 5 pineapple thai. They are rockwool clones. I transplanted them into some 6 inch pots to get some roots going before they go into the 3 gallon pots. I am using foxfarm soil. I planted the clones and then mixed my water with some miracle grow vegetable fertilizer and then did the PH balance to around 6.5. Then I gave them the first watering and placed them in the grow room under my lights.

So I think my first mistake was putting the fertilizer in and then doing the PH.
Second mistake was watering them for the first time with that water.
Third mistake over watering the next day trying to flush out the fertilizer messed up water with just PH balanced water.

What is happening is that my clones started to kinda droop over at the stem and then the leaves became yellow and the ends started to look brown like they were burnt. So I have just left them alone for the last 4 days to see what would happen. They look much healthier now and the leaves are not looking like they want to fall off. So I think i may have saved them.

My question is should I just keep watering them with the regular water without nutrients for a while? The pineapple thai seemed to take it much harder than the gods gift, why is that? Should I be cutting off the dead leaves ends? Any other advice would be much appreciated. I am growing in a 4x4x6 room that I built from 2x2's and panda plastic. I have an oscillating fan and a 4 inch exhaust fan in the top. I am using fluorescent lights, part tube and part CFL. Pushing about 25000 lumens.

I don't live in a MMJ state so I've never bought clones. I don't know if they come rooted, but either way, you shouldn't be giving them any nutes as young as they are (by the sound of it). Don't cut off the dead leaves, let them fall off.

Don't cut any growth unless it's 50% or more damaged. Sound like you made your nutrient water to rich for the plants. Some plants handle overdose better than others, so that's why you saw 2 reactions to it. If the clones aren't even rooted (or just barely rooting) don't feed nutes. They are doing everything in there power to basically grow in reverse. Nutes was a shock right now.

sounds like nute burn. little girls need very little nutes. ph is always the last thing to do when adding to water.

The clones did come rooted in the rockwool. Roots were coming out of the bottom pretty heavily. So should I keep on giving them just water for now then? Thank you for the replies. The plants are about 6 inches tall right now. Some pictures...

Just water sparingly every water your also feeding, You've already got it in the soil, plus, miricle grow is super hot chems. Overdose on the way. Just keep them alive and expound on the root growth. The plant will be able to grow the healthy roots and flush ITSELF with the straight water you want to give them. Try a eye dropper to water. This keeps you from being to heavy handed, remember a few drops arond the plants stem once a day will be sufficiant. Just grow some roots right now, the vegitation the plant will grow in the next step of it life. If you don't kill it with miricle Grow!

Thank you for the replies. I dont think I am going to use miracle grow anymore, i'll find some better nutrients. I will just water sparingly for now and let it do its thing.

Absolutely. Othing wrong with using MG, just need to go easy on it. Start at 1/4 recommended dosing, and go from there. You Lready have the nutes, less money isn't relevant. I have done many a grow with mg nutes and soil with no ill effects. Read the plant on its reaction to the nute regiment you use. Even the most expensie nutes in wrong doses can hurt a plant.

Good advice grummpy, some strains with miricle grow will not even handle 1/4 at first..... 1/8, Is recomended at greater frequency for young root growth. Also, don't forget secondary macros and a micro-nutrient squedual as well. Check your mg package and look for how much nitrogen, phosphorus and potasium, (npk), is readily accessable. Sometimes,on a label it will say it has a value of say, 20 n, see if your package says right below that, water soluble nitrogeon, then give a value for that. That value is the readilly accesable nitrogeon. The balance of the original value is more or less time realease, It doesn't realease through mechanism like a water soluble bead. It realeases as micro-orignisms and bactrim devour it. Some non water soluble fertilizers realese through chemical reaction to water and quit realising when the media drys. You have more adjustments and you will have to be more dilligent paying attention with greater detail, when using these nutes. It is a gen purpose nutrient like most. And is harder than some to LEARN to use. It will give some decent results with some of the more resealiant strains.

On another topic are these little plants exposed to 24 hour light? They appear to be blooming. Buddy you need to remove carefully those flowers and let these clones veg, Did someone give you cloned autos? Or are you exposing them to darkness for long periods of time followed by light? (Photoperiod)

Yeah. My assumption was the clones came from a plant that was put into flowering to sex it, but that should have stopped if they were getting the proper photoperiod, within the time from cutting to root growth.

Ya thats why I clone everything, then cull the males and corisponding clones. Thats alot of flower for a just planted clone, for hell sakes!!

Im not sure those are flowering, only one appears to have a flower top forming but it could be damaged new growth.

can you get a better picture, focusing on the growing tip area?

to prevent futher damage, water with plain water untill the plants start begging for nutrients. Fox Farms comes with fertilizers built in, and plants never use as much as we want to put in.

It's really hard to hurt a plant with under-fertilization, but its super easy to snuff one with too much nutrients.

So I actually had them under the wrong light schedule for the first 4 days. I had my timer backwards and didn't realize it. I was running 18 off and 6 on. Thats what I get for setting the timers and then going away for a long weekend. I corrected this the day the pictures were taken. I am hoping they will go back into veg. However the pineapple thai (smaller of the bunch) did seem like it was taken from a flowering plant. I will try to get a better picture for you. The only ones looking like they are flowering is the pineapple thai. the gods gift does not have any white hairs on it.

Overwatered with nutes and under the wrong lighting schedule? Man those girls have had a rough start! If the have not been flushed then flushing is where I would start. Then let them dry out completely. After they are dry (almost to a wilt) then re-start your nutes at 1/4 strength and go from there.


Soggy feet are the worst senerio for them right now, dry them out!

Ok, I didn't water them for 3 days and then just yesterday I gave them a small bit of water just around the stem. I will wait and let them dry out a bit. the edges of the soil is already dry, just the middle portion needs to dry out more. Now that they are under the right lighting they should dry out pretty fast. I cut off the flowers on the 4 that had them, I was sure to be careful and only get the flowers.

hey man if this is your first grow i would consider changing from MG to something else like foxfarms line. MG does what it is supposed to and works but it is sooooo easy to burn the crap outa your babies. Once you switch you will never go back! Keep us posted happy growing!
