It's the same author as the guy that wrote the book called "the devils of loudun"... You'd love it as it goes through the very scenario you're giving us. He's a very bitter and honest guy.. I wouldn't want to engineer my child. Just because it would always be in the back of my head - what would my child have been like if I hadn't tampered with their DNA? It just doesn't feel right on a moral level.

Well couldn't you ask yourself "what would they have been like if I tampered with their genetics"? I bet if you had a suicidal child (I'm not saying you do.. I hope the best for your children), you'd love for them to not think that way.

I never said they should. To "fear" is human. It helps keep us safe from danger. Don't get me wrong, I love science. I have an advanced degree in chemistry and am not against progress or anything like that. However, considering the risk factors whenever altering the natural order in such ways is of utmost importance. Our very survival as a species MAY depend on it! Splitting the atom opened up the possibilities of producing relatively cheap energy for the world. That same technology also gave us perhaps our best method to destroy ourselves. Understanding this and recognizing it is as important as progress if not moreso. It's counterproductive to take a step forward only to find we've fallen back 5.

Yeah I know all of this.. that's the reason I would like for scientists to not fuck with our nice natural evloution. And a degree in chemistry? Bravo dude bravo . I'd like to be that smart someday lol.

I'm not rich, very far from it. But I absolutely hate classism and that's what I see coming from Urca. I hate it when it goes in either direction.

The rich that I worked for are very giving people. They give and do it anonymously. Do you know 'Just Call Sam' the lawyer? He gives BIG time. More than a few dozen of me can earn in a year and no one knows. To think that they want to harm or injure anyone is beyond anything I can comprehend.

You seem very focused on depression and suicide issues and i'm growing concerned about it. At any rate, i'd rather my children be natural. They're human, and it's OK for them to be imperfect. Personally, I think if a child feels like they were specially engineered for perfection, they'd be more likely to develop depression simply because they might never "measure up" to the expectations set for them.

classism? i was just stating something that could hypothetically happen, i have no problem with rich people. they earned what they got. but im not talking about the people you know. im talking about hypothetical people in a world where genetic engineering is possible, and the possible outcomes. stop attacking me for "not having my own opinions, being classist, etc."

lol don't bring my emotions into this.. uncalled for. It is perfectly fine for them to be imperfect. If I had the money to control my child I think I'd choose to have a natural child. I don't know why though.

But no.. They wouldn't develop depression that easily since they wouldn't have certain traits that cause depression. Expectations? Nobody is putting expectations on them. I said on the first page that they'd still have challenges and emotions. I wouldn't push my son to be the next president lol.

i never said it was realistic, just conjecture. based off of discussions ive had in class. i do think there are ethical issues, but the whole dominating upper class is just speculation
