What other appliances are you using in the house. I'm sure you aren't recording the hours the other appliances are on for;
one month you could have used the tv more than the last month.

What you do is multiply your electricity tariff by the kilowatts of the appliances to work out the amount it costs to run per hour.

- 100w / 150w = 0.25kW

- 0.25 x 0.89 = 0.22 (0.2225)

So it costs $0.22 to run them each hour. If it doesn't add up, complain to your energy company.
Also, there is quite a bit a power lost in magnetic ballasts.

wow...glad I only pay 4.2 cents/kilowatt hour. what your paying is a total ripoff. that being said, growing mary j will cost ya. I pay $120/month and use a 400w hps, 4 fans, 2 ac's we have electric stove, electric water heater etc. Everything electric. You just have to get used to paying. It will pay for itself in the end though if you have a good harvest with a good potency/taste/aroma. thats what I think about when I think my bill is too high.

Tour state might have more taxes. My actually elecgricty bill is juat aroud 60 70 with everything running all day plus a 150w hos and a 135w led and a few fans, my taxes alone are atleast 60 70. So that could be a reason, ive lived here for ever so im not sure if rhis helps but every atate has its own tax laws on that shit

i forgot to mention the fact i ran 1,000+ watts of a window AC unit threw the whole summer and still got 78 dollars for my electric bill from the other state. here its different. i just dont get it is all. i do think the taxes and the over jack up of price after a certain hour can play a role

seriously though most places probably do tiered billing which say if you go over a certain amount then the price per kwh will increase.

you dont like .8?

pay $.12 for the first 600kWH then it hikes to $.14 (or something like that. maybe .10 to start, who knows :-P)

paying about 300/mo

the obvious question here is how many kwh did the bill claim you used? if you're paying 90 bucks a month at 9 cents a kwh, it ain't from a 150 w hps and a fan.

is this an apartment building by any chance?

did you bring your old fridge with you from your old place? prolly not ehh? the fridge is usually the biggest electric expense in most (non dope growing) homes. each fridge uses the gravy in it's own way. bigger fridges, older fridges and fridges with the temp cranked lower will use more gravy than a small new fridge set at lvl 3. also, fees. goddamned fees. smart meter fees, interstate power sharing fees, rural hookup fees, energy star compliance fees low cost affordability fees, etc etc etc.

observe your kilowatt hours for a month listed on your bill, and tot up the purported wattage on all your appliances. some shit might be using more power due to a short, or faulty cutoff relay, or some jackass could be tapping your shit, or as in my case a few years ago, you could be paying for the streetlight outside your house....

oh, the formula:

voltage X amperage = watts 1000 watts = 1 kilowatt running for an hour = 1 kilowatt hour x electrical rate + fees = your bill

theres also devices you can plug in between the wall and your appliance to get it's actual wattage. some are pretty cheap ( http://www.amazon.com/P3-International-P4400-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU )

Yeah, the the power company then knows your stealing power. They arrive with search warrant and sheriff in tow. That's just what you need. If you don't electrocute yourself.
yes it was sarcasm, I hate a fucking thief. But trust me there are plenty people doing it that have been doing it for a long long time, of course no one is gonna tap in before the meter unless they're running thousands of watts.

As power companies upgrade their systems, they are installing metering equipment that shows how much power goes to each block or so. If more power is used than billed for, they can locate the source of loss. It's only a matter of time before your friends get caught. The newer meters are a bitch.

I don't remember calling anyone my "friend" and especially not a thief. Its not a concern of mine we're not tapped in before the meter.
