My Growing Closet Setup + Sound Control?

Hello all!

I'm a new grower (actually, still a pre-grower
) and would love to get your insights and thoughts about my closet design, and also if you can help me with controlling my fans sound.

IMG_2020xs.jpg

I have a 85(Wide)X55(Depth)X180cm(Heigh t) wooden closet.
I cut 2 holes in it, one for intake at the bottom left side, and the other for exhaust at the back and right corner of closet's ceiling.

For intake I got a 4" bathroom fan (ELPAST).
For outtake I got a Ruck 125.
Also have a Cooltube with a dual-spectrum Philips son-t 400W bulb.

Does it look right? It works... but as I said, didn't start growing anything yet, so would be happy to hear from the experts anything you have to recommend or point-out.

And for the sound question:
As you can see in the pic - I got some 8" insulated ducting and tried to cover my Ruck fan (which makes too much noise for me) with the pink rockwool and the reflective coating of it.. Tightened 2 large pieces of it with some cable-binders but it's not completely covered, as the space behind the Ruck fan and the back of the closet is too small (I installed the Ruck fan a bit too close to back of closet...).
Anyway, the thing is still noisy. I guess a bit less, but just a bit, not really a difference. especially not, when adding the sound from the 4" bathroom fan bringing air in...

What can I do?? Let me know of every suggestion you can that is relevant for my setup.

Thanks a lot in advance guys! Happy growing!

If your fan's touching the board then it's vibration which makes the noise. I have mine suspended from rubber cord, did reduce loads. Or insulate further by putting the fan inside a box, inside a box, inside a box...
Looking good though!

Like sworth said if the fans touching the box then its vibrations that causing the noise problem. The easiest way to fix it is to suspend the fan from the ceiling or wall whatever with a bungee cord. Run your ducting from the intake hole to the fan secure it, it'll work like a charm! Another suggestion would be to get a fan speed controller if possible and run the fan at like %50, %75.

If the problem is you fear others hearing it I would also let people watch me bring in a noisy oscillating fan
that I need to run in my room to help me breath and sleep better. Then if they hear noise they will attribute it to your sleeping fan.
Magic by misdirection!

Insulated ducting is money well spent imo...
3 fans, 3 pumps and it's virtually silent outside my grow room

Hey, thanks but that's not foil. It's the reflective material I bought in the grow store, taped with reflective tape (very tough, not removable).

Thanks! :) I might do buy those suspension cords and dismount the fan from the closet's wall, if that's what you all suggest.

I actually wasn't thinking the noise is coming from that... It just seemed (maybe still seems...? :) that the noise was just coming out of the whole venting operation and it was normal, but too loud for a small apartment...
Maybe you're right, though, but I'll be able to know only if I'll remove the fan from the wall...

Another suggestion would be to get a fan speed controller if possible and run the fan at like P, u.
Thanks. One thing I'm not sure about: Don't I need the fan to be at 100% power? Will it vent my closet with 50-75% of power as well as with 100% power?

Nice idea, thanks, although I'm more concerned about not having everybody that comes in my house ask me "what's that noise from back there?"... :) I have no other place to place my grow closet, and it's pretty adjacent to my living room.

Its either the vibration or the sound from the air passing through the tube. How bout run a duct lune from an ac vent. I have 2 fans in a closet that noone can hear. But like others said stop the vibration and insulate

The air rush does make a lot of noise, can't do much about the oscillating fan's noise except lower the speed. Even the small PC fans I used to use made too much noise...

Wouldn't sticking some acoustic foam or wood acoustic thing on the back of the closet but from the outside of it (where I want to block the sound from going) will remove any noise?
I've been interested in those... any experience with things like that? All sorts of noise dampening...

Thanks guys.

I decided I'll probably take my exhaust fan down and then put it in a box and foam fill it, as suggested to me pretty much everywhere, since it is my main noise causer and I'd love to quiet it down as much as I can.

I think that for the intake bathroom fan I'll try putting some egg-cartons on the wall in front of it, and see how that handles the noise from it.

There will also be a carbon filter added soon. Didn't buy it since it wasn't urgent to have now, but gonna buy it soon anyway and see if that reduces some more in sounds from the fan...

Is it better to have my filter set up inside the closet, this way: filter -> cooltube -> ruck fan -> outside port, or maybe put my filter outside the closet, on top of it, like this: cooltube (one side sucks the air from the closet, other connect to ducting) -> ruck fan -> outside port -> filter (outside, mounted on top of port)?
