A few (stupid) questions!

Iv'e read the beginners guide, but it goes into alot of detail and has confused me as to what stuff I need to buy (based in the UK if this helps) I could do with the steps in plain black and white so I can't go wrong

What lights do I need?

Do I use the same lights from the begining to the end?

The process as far as I understand it: Seed in moist kitchen towl for 3 days > germinated seed in small cube of rock wool till the roots start to poke out? then transfer to a bigger pot, and keep light on the plant for 24 hours,but until when?

Do I have to cut the light cycle down to 12/12 or something when the plant is so big?

As for the lighting it depends on what you wanna do?
Are you doing a small grow, large grow, in a room a cabinet what?
If you have space to work with I would use LED or plasma lighting, as for the light cycle it depends how big your
Plant can be. Just know that when you switch to 12/12 for flower your plant will double in size so make sure you have the space.

a bunch of people here(including me) are growing 12/12 light cycle right from seeds, it will grow a smaller plants and it's much easier for a first grow as well. the 12/12 switch is your call, anytime you want really...

Another question... Would I need cooling with 12 plants?

Also should I grow in soil or 'hyrdo'? I know it stands for hydroponics but doesn't it use a medium to grow in? Just water?

wait what? since when is it legal to grow ganja in the UK ?!

light bulb is how a matter of how big your wallet is and how big space you got. if you use HPS bulbs you can go with the same lights all through the grow.

man you can just put the seed directly into the soil if you want. or you could put the seeds in a glass of water and wait for it to germinate. or put them in a moist paper towel and just wait for the tail to show.

you shouldnt have a light cycle of 24 h lights. weed needs dark periods to grow. (debateable) i would recomend 18/6 periods

lookie here . about the 12/12 question. lets say you want you plant to be like 10 inches in the end, you switch your light schedule to 12/12 when its about 5 inches tall. cannabis plants tend to grow to twice its size when switched to flower mode. if its a sativa i recomend a shorter veg period as them suckas grow taaaall like hell.

ok ok so thats how it is ^^ you should get a cooltube if you plan on gettin a HPS bulb. cause i know the police be flying around with them heatcameras

I would do a lot more reading and research (I must have done 2 months on and off before I did begin to invest and set it up .. and I did grow outdoors years ago)


ther are a lot of ways to do it ..

dont just think Bc. one say its great it is .. might be for him but not for you .. it all depense ..

your space and your money will for a start set a limit ..

stuff like tempetures will also play a role ..

but most importent is to ask yourself fist .. is what do I want .. what do I expect .. what am I ready to use in terms of money/time ..

big HDI lights like HPS and MH lights who was ment to be outdoor lights do produce a lot of heat .. so with them you will also have to invest around the same in ventilation .. tubeing .. filters .. and maybe a AC (not in the UK tho)

fluorescens tubes and CLFs can be great .. but they have one big down side .. penetration/strengs .. need to be on top of the plants to even get close to a HPS grow .. but make next to no heat and can be a cheap way to get enough smoke for yourself .. and a nice begining as upscaling is always a option .. shopping is easy

LED can be great (no experiance tho) but make sure you dont go cheap and buy them China toy lights ...
do the research .. see what other Ppl. have good experiance with .. go with a big brand .. pay them extra 50£ .. sucks to pay 200£ for a toy that dont realy work ..

about light and dark hrs .. pretty simple .. its like nature .. you know just use commen sens and logic .. plant logic taht is
well fall arrives and days become shorter then the nights the plant will begin to flower (I think I read that less the 13 hrs of light will tricker that in most cases)

but ther is also the option of Auto seeds/plants .. might be a easy way for a beginner to get a foothold ?
as they dont follow the lenght of the days .. can just run it 18/6 or 20/4 as most do I belive all the way .. and no need to worry about light leaks .. witch can be a killer with normal seeds in flowering ..

nomather what you will need to "copy" nature so to speak .. it will need sun = light .. it will need rain = water and some wind and fresh air/co2 = ventilation and fans ..

you realy cant do this half .. you can do it on a big scale or a small or some wher in between .. but not half ..

need light .. need ventilation .. need odour controle/filter .. need fans .. and a good home for your girls witch also can be many things .. soil is most commen for beginners (I would suggest coco tho) also hydro is a way to make great yild .. but then you will also need a hydro system/pumps and what folow with that .. noise and space and more money ..

I could go on as you might notice

I reccon you need to get the basic in order to be able to choose the right way for you and your wallet and your needs ..

I would suggest for ur 1st grow stay away from hydro, sumptin like coco coir would be ok but to start out soil helps to protect the plant well from u I guess acts as a buffer so to speak. And lights led tend to be on the pricy side, cfls r an inexpensive place to start that is a low heat source, or ur basic HID setup u can get a digital ballast that will allow u to run both mh and hps bulbs, mh is generally used 4 veg and hps 4 flowering.
