I suppose you could, but why would you want to? Unless you're using a gigantic block of it, it shouldn't get in the way. I've cloned in rock wool and gone to both dirt and hydro without any problem. Just be sure to cover your rock wool or you're bound to have mold problems.I searched the web for answers only found one link and it wasn't a very reliable source. Any help here?
I wanted to remove the rockwool for my high pressure aero system, due to the fact that rockwool retains to much water for my mist schedule. Hpa doesn't require a medium therefore I can't use hydrotron because it will also retain to much moisture.I just give my plants a little shake and a light rub to knock off the loose pieces. If youtry to pull the rockwool of, you'll just rip the roots.
Like HSA said, cover the rockwool, I use hydroton for hydro, you can also use sand for soil.
