Grandma's Growing Again

Hey Bluejeans. I got some bragging rights for you. You are probably one of the coolest cannabis smoking grandma's. You are in fact Cannabis Country's most popular reader. So far 2 of your pictures have been featured as a Bud Of The Week. And you were mentioned in a article about a judge getting busted for pot. If you never seen it you can read it here.

Hey everybody! Sorry I've been MIA for a couple of days. Spent the weekend working the garden (both inside and out) and ended up wrenching my back with a simple sneeze. I've never had a sneeze bring me to me knees before, but this one did... something popped... and Grandma's been in bed a couple of days.

Anyway, several things I'll comment on:

First, YAY the LIKE button is back ... again.

Second, thanks Kratose, for the plug on the blog! I get over there from time to time and do enjoy reading. You are welcome to use any of my pics that I post online here at any time.

And third, concerning yield... The two plants I've harvested from the coco yielded 3/4 ounce and 1 ounce, but they were both bagseed, in one gallon root pots, grown 12/12 from seed so I am content with the yield. Of course, in addition to all the other variables mentioned, strain also plays a part and who knows about bag seeds? Veg time was zero and the one that only yielded 3/4 ounce, really would have done better if I hadn't stepped on her and broken off one of her main arms... she only had a central stalk and two radial arms, and I broke one of them clean off at just before 5 weeks.

The real proof will be with the next two plants which were each vegged for about 3 weeks and are solid strains (Power Kush and Strawberry Diesel). I'm expecting something in the neighborhood of 4-6 ounces from the two of them. The next two after them will be bagseed again, but bagseed with 3-4 weeks of veg time...

In general, I grow in one gallon or three gallon root pots. Most of my bags are one gallon

And third, KAB, I take back anything I ever said about not needing so much soil and scaling back the recipe. I ended up mixing up a really large batch after all. I was wearing myself out one brick at a time since I seem to be unable to stop cloning. I might have gone a tad bit overboard...

I now have 9 plants in the flower room, 24 in the veg tub, and 9 more in the Aerogarden that still need to be potted. In my distraction, I forgot about many of the clones in the Aerogarden and when I checked them last night, they had 3" roots out the bottom of the rockwool and snaking along the ridges in the bottom of the propegator tray... oops. So in total, I've got 42 plants going right now. And I've given away several!

I think I'm going to be moving the Strawberry Diesel clone from the veg room to the flower room tonight to make some room in the veg room to get the three Black Diesel clones out of solo cups and in to root pots.

So, boys and girls, that's it for the update tonight till I'm feeling better.

Bluejeans. First I really hope you're feeling better. I think you would benefit from stepping up to larger than one gallon for your flowering girls. I hope that you don't mind but I'm gonna throw up 2 pics. This plant was flowered 20 days after it sprouted in a 3 gallon pot. Yielded like 8 oz. It's super sour skunk from hortilab. The second is shish99 everything done the same. Pulled like 5-6 oz

You wanna hear something crazy....we just ran out of coco. Lol.

KAB, as I've said before, I certainly don't mind others sharing pics in my thread and those look fabulous! I am slowly switching to 3 gallon pots, but I'm a poor grandma and have to use up what I have before I buy new stuff... These root bags are really a bit more forgiving than a plastic pot the same size. As a matter of fact, the 1 gallon SmartPots I'm using appear to be only slightly smaller than the 3 gallon Aurora root pots... so in truth, I dunno exactly what I'm using.

And here's the mixing project from the weekend... (Mr. Bluejeans is not such a wonderful photographer...). I ended up with 2 of those 20 gallon tubs full of amended coco.

I spread everything out on a tarp. And we use a yard rake and a snow shovel to mix it all up.
Now, that's a good idea. I'll bear that in mind next time. I expanded the coco in the wheel barrow then proceeded to mix in a series of buckets till I got it all nicely homogenized... I did use a shovel to do a lot of the work. I also had the invaluable assistance of a 2-1/2 year old who wanted to help Grandma "make dirt"... LOL

We have galaxy select-a-watt 1ks. We run them on 1k. I am very happy with these ballasts. Our hoods are all magnumxxxl. Love the hoods also

nice karma i got the growers choice hood, only one i could find that was remotely big enough, with the magnum being JUST too big for my flower cab...running a lumatek 600 ballast. no problems so far, even when i had to convert the hood from the galaxy style power connectors to the older or european style cords. that made me a lil nervous, specially for my first HID light, but it runs beautifully!

bluejeans those big buckets make me jealous! lol my max pot size is just over a gallon. if i wasnt going to try hydro, i would definitely be getting bigger airpots like you have. have you ever tried hydro? most good growers it seems prefer soil or soiless to hydro as far as taste...i think. what you think?

MGT, yes, I tried hydro and, for the most part, I had good results. I found it to be a lot of work, though, and very difficult to keep my res temps right. I also didn't like having to check and adjust my res every day. While I do go look at my girls every day, I "fiddle" rather than work... and hydro just felt like work. Also, at the time, my light was over a tub, which made res changes VERY difficult.

As for results, I can't argue that I got good results. Since I haven't grown the same plant in soil/soiless vs. hydro so I really can't compare. The hydro stuff that I grew tasted pretty good to me!

lol awesome thanks for the info blue! yeah being of a younger generation, being obsessed with my relatively new hobby, and being mildly ocd lead me to believe i could benefit greatly from having work like that every day. lol. keeps me off the streets! ;-)

Good to know. And I know how ya feel with the cloning. I went overboard also. I expected not all of them to survive but once again 100% of my clones survived so I have more then enough plants right now.

Evenin' folks! Last month we had 4/20 to celebrate... Well, this weekend, my baby boy turns 21 on 5/20 so we're gonna be doing a little celebrating of our own.

BUT, for now, it's the weekend and time for a peek inside Grandma's grow room. I went on a potting frenzy and used up all my coco last weekend, causing me to have to mix bunches more... an activity I am still recovering from. I planted 16 clones into pots, harvested my Power Kush, flushed the Strawberry Diesel, and moved White Poison and Black Diesel into the flower room.

It's awesome to have such diversity in my flower room. I never realized all the different "structures" of the plant. Each strain is all a little different in how they grow. Some stretch a lot, some a little, some have many side branches, some just flower straight up the middle... it's fascinating! Well, enough of my rambling, on to the pictures!

This is my Strawberry Diesel. She is next up on the chopping block in about 3 more weeks.

DSCF8421.jpg DSCF8417.jpgDSCF8420.jpg

Here's the whole room. See what a diverse jungle it is? Do you think it is too crowded or not crowded enough? I'm thinking I sure do have a lot of clones in the back. I wonder just how many I really can shove in there at once. The room is 5 x 5 and the light is a 600w.

DSCF8377.jpg

And look at my White Poison!!! She is blooming the most beautiful purple. This picture is the best one I have been able to take and it still does not begin to do her justice. I cannot wait to see this one in full bloom!

DSCF8422.jpg

And this is my bagseed SuzyQ with Power Kush in the background. I got impulsive again and chopped PK without taking final pictures of her.

DSCF8412.jpgDSCF8387.jpg

And finally just some random pics of the rest of the girls.

DSCF8385.jpgDSCF8403.jpgDSCF8406.jpgDSCF8407.jpgDSCF8409.jpg

Thanks for looking!

Looking good grandma. Looks like you could fit some more girls in there to me. If you as how packed our space is with plants you'd laugh....till you see how much we pull.

Well, I'm not above shoving a few more in there... but at what point does capacity begin to affect yield?

Oh and when I saw that White Poison blooming purple, I was SO glad I pulled five good clones from her. I see a purple scrog in my future.
