Goddamn Foxes

These foxes have been getting ever closer to my Chickens and I suspect that they have gotten 1 or 2 already but this morning I heard distressed chickens outside and I ran out to the coop rounded a corner and see this big adult fox biting in to my only duck but luckily I got there in time and the duck is still alive and only has a broken bone in the neck so she is having trouble lifting he head But I know she will survive. How do you think I should deal with the foxes.

A fox got in my buddies coop and it was bad. The fuckin thing just broke all their necks and mauled them half to death. There was 20 half dead chickens and ducks dying slowly.

It was terrible I felt so bad for them.

The only way I know of to deal with foxes or coyotes is to build a shed with a locking door. We had one that we built. I hated cleaning that damn thing out, though. Blech.

Poison. You could put rat poison in raw chicken outside the pen. You won't see them again. You could get a couple of leg traps and set them up too, just keep your dogs in during all this. You could also find a fishing and hunting website for your state and see if any trappers would come out and do it for you. It isn't hard though. Could even use live traps, or call a critter control company and they'll take care of the problem.


I'd personally set up one of my pop up blinds, sit there during the night, and shoot them, but that's how I roll. I like to see them go dead.

I'm in a gated community so no shotguns or rifles can be shot unless they're under 22. cal which I don't have and I have A pit and a few jack russels that will run them off but those damn foxes are cunning.

Live traps and relocate them to the woods way away from you.
Poison?? only an ass hole would put out poison, I've lost 2 dogs because
some jerkoff doing that, if I find out who they'll go to jail if I can prove they did it.

Traps and poison are a horrible idea in a gated community. You will end up catching/killing your own or someone else's dogs.
The live trap idea is probably the best yet - many animal shelters will lend you a havaheart style trap for free. Just disguise it well & bait with a bit of cat food or tuna fish.
The best part of this plan is that if you happen to catch the Johnson's cat fluffy, you simply open the trap & she goes home, but if you catch your culprit, disposal is easy - I would just take an ice chest large enough to fit the trap into, fill it with water & drop the fox in trap & all.

Your problem will be solved in a matter of minutes.

The duck is alright, just shocked but those bastards have been trying to raid my chickens 3 times today once at about 6 but my pit warded them off then at about 8 one of the parent foxes attcked the duck then about 9 a little fox was trying to attck my little chickens but the dogs ran it off a few miles through the woods and I'm setting a baited trap and not a painful one just a simple close-behind door trap.

What type of gated community do you live in?
You can have chickens and ducks? And your dogs can run for miles in the woods?

I have woods on two sides of the property and houses on the other two. And the senior citizens in the neighborhood like to come and see the chickens sometimes. Big Community.

Made with hardware wire not chicken wire.
Burried wire all around the outside also

You need a chicken coop inside a small fenced pen with a small doghouse in it. At night lock the chickens in their coop and then put one of your dogs in the enclosure so they can sleep in the small doghouse (rotate your dogs so everyone gets a turn). In the morning open the enclosure and the chicken coop. That way the chickens are safe at night from any predators and the dog will fix the fox for you and enjoy doing it.

That's exctly what we have, (ecxept for the dog house)
When I lock the chickens inside their coop at nght, I open the chain link gates & my dog can roam all around the coop

Hey, we have a huge fox population here, and one thing I know is that if you harm them - more will just quickly move into the territory. If you are anywhere near a suburban area, a breeding pair is never far away. Full enclosure is the only safe place for a chicken in the cold dead of night, I see lots of folks here with high chicken-wire fences around their Hen-houses. Foxes can jump at least 2m high, so alot of the time people have chicken-wire roofing aswell.

I love foxes, but have to agree - it is horrible to see what they do to chickens. Its the way they have to kill every last one. P.S I'm glad your duck is ok!
