How old were you?

It was after a very rocky relationship with a ex. He was your classic tall dark and handsome and sex was great but there just wasn't the stuff to make it last. He was a very emotional man and I think he cried more than me. Not that I think there is anything worng with men crying;don't get me wrong; but I just needed someone more stable than I was. Not like that was hard to do.
Now the man I share my life with makes me laugh and laugh because he is so very funny. FUNNY! Thats what won me over.
If I can be with someone who can tolerate me and laugh with me then its ALL GOOD> :hump:

When I met my now 'common law' hubby there were no fireworks or anything but he was very caring and very stable.
We worked together at a company where I was in charge of quality control and he was in charge of production and we fought like cat and dog until I finally asked him out and he has been with me since.
We became the best of friends and I do not care at all how he looks. WE have been together now for 18 years.

Looks are only something that initially catches your eye.
I like people who are not afraid to be themselves and show who they really are. I also admire people that take responsibility for themselves; don't blame others but also don';t take sh*t from others.

To me cute and funny wins over anything. I mean cute as in personality....not looks but I have to be with someone that has intelligence. but not arrogant about it. I like cockiness but only in small amounts.

And the question I often ask myself is if I was in a terrible accident and was disfigured....would I still be lovable???
There is so much more than looks and I feel sorry for the people who determine everything on appearnace alone.

I suppose I like people with strong personalities. You can only do so much with looks but looks fade. Looks really don't mean a thing to me.
I think people who only go by looks alone are extremely shallow.

Relationships dont work without respect for, and from, your partner. Unfortunatley this day an age its hard to find a chick my age who has any understanding of the word respect. I see it everyday, partners who dont respect each other. My mates missus slaps him round, demands him round, wont allow him to spend his own money without her permission and invites random guys around for a quick flirt 'n' feel right in front of him. The silly cows only 17 yo. No wonder why he consumes so much pot.

a butcher.. hmmmm..

you probably have incredible forearm strength. and at 6'6 - 180, you would make a great armwrestler... look into it :)

lots of armwrestling tournaments in the south..

When I was a young sprog in school ( start high sch. in 66 ) you'd look for a "sturdy homemaker" as the gals didn't work outside the home like later times. There is also one fact about then and now. Then girls wore training bra's, sometimes into their middle teens. Now the girls are so much more mature and seem more attractive as a whole. Unfortunatly looks seen to matter so much now. I'm not talking just pretty, but unless your uber-gorgeous society says not good enough.......... pity I'm a drummer too (42yrs)

Hey twisty. I am 42 also and I have to agree with you on this one.
Society has put some much pressure on females to look a certain way and now kids are really mixed up. Most think they are not normal if they don't have silicone implants. wtf? Thats very sad. Society has made LOOKS a #1 priority thats plays into EVERYTHING .

Its shoved down our throats waytoo early an age that what you look like matters more than who you are and I think it is a sin. You've got kids at 5 & 6 years old saying they are fat and ugly.

Then you have mothers that feed into the system by dressing their children up at this age to look like top notch hookers claiming that it is not damaging the child. Like hell its not!!!
How can anyone get into these small childrens minds to know how they are processing it all. The content is just beyond their ability to comprehend.

The parents defend it all by saying that their child enjoys it so much. The child has LEARNED to enjoy it because of the 'positive' feedback she is getting and to claim that this attention has no undesired consequences is beyond ignorant.:evil::evil:

While growing up I remember the lodge it put between my brothers and the fact that I was being treated differently just because I was a female. This confused me a lot when I was a small child.

Then when I started to delelop at a very early age the attention I got from that made me even more confused. My parents never discussed anything with us kids and because there was no communication.....this very topic became an issue with me but has always held my interest.

It is fact that 'looks' matter no matter how much we claim to say that they don't. They do. I think it is a truth most people don't want to admit to. We have all been so conditioned to believe so.

But in saying this I think that most people like 'things' in general to look nice. Their food their house etc etc.

Its just my 2 cents.:blsmoke:

Good points. I've got friends that have daughters that look like call girls. How in the hell can a parent be so naive. Now days children are left to their own devices, and a majority of the time they choose wrong... Back in the day girls looked for a reliable provider, which at that time meant not only Drs. and the such but the basic factory worker with a lifelong job. Now days long term anything is a fleeting prospect. I feel sorry for the youth of the day. Given everything and earn nothing. Being 54 I still cringe at the memory of the dreaded 1st. meeting with the girlfriend's parents, man talk about being reemed out... Try that stunt now and you'll get a "fuck off man, you're not my father" unfortunatly his father isn't his father. Shit all my parents had to do was shoot me a look and I'd run for the hills. I've had my ass wooped for shit I'd forgot about...
Good times :) OUCH :o

Garden Knowm, you seem to be able to understand what baked poeple are trying to say so here it goes .
I feel that looks are as important as anything else. And while that sounds shallow, i think that whoever you will be with will be the absolute end all to be all for yourself, and therefore will be as beautiful as the breaking dawn.
And maybe I'm not expressing myself right. Peoples character shines through on most people and distorts even the best of beauty. On the same token it can make those of even less than average looks seem so much better.
Fuck it, I like them all. As said by gatsby "Love is a dunghill, and i am simply a cock that crawls upon it to crow."

Society puts pressure on men to look good too, not just women. People tend to only think girls feel pressure to look good, I was a fat kid for about 18 years of my life and it sucked. I never wanna go back!

Dammit accord! Now my post doesn't make sense!

Response to "the other fat kid"....
Not at all in the same way the pressure, via media (advertising!), is put on the females. Just look at a few commercials with husband and wife. All too often hubby is not "classically" attractive and may even have a pot/beer belly going on, while wifey has a trim figure and sweet features.

I was the fat kid, too, and I still am. D'oh! I'm too old for that! Actually, not to digress, but I will... it's really funny seeing people from high school who were SO skinny and of whom I was so jealous. More than a few of them have become so fat as to be morbidly obese, whereas I am pretty much almost exactly as I was in high school. A butterball with child-bearin' hips and big boobulars.
