Marijuana growers wanted

Hello,

My colleagues and I are doing a research study on marijuana cultivation. We’re really interested in collecting information about growing marijuana and would like to invite you to take part in the survey.
The survey asks questions about why you enter and leave the trade, your working groups and a little bit about your background and experience with growing. This study looks not only at individuals in North America but we also have similar surveys being conducted in Europe and Australia.

The survey is completely anonymous (your identity will not be known). We are not affiliated with any law enforcement agencies and no information you provide can be linked back to you (IPs are NOT collected).

The survey takes approx. 10 minutes to complete and can be found at: https://www.research.net/s/MGrowerSurvey

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Aili Malm, PhD.

Will you tell us how you plan on using the information you are collecting? Seems like gathering information to "profile" grower and help get them busted. Maybe not the exact people answering questions but other growers. The fact that she teaches a classes on policing and criminal justice put me off more than just a bit. Even if rolly approved the post, I don't see any way this could be anything but bad for growers!

INFORMED CONSENT
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this study is to:
1) Examine the careers of individuals who are involved with cannabis cultivation. We seek to understand variations in gender, age, education, and patterns in cultivation among cannabis growers. Second, we want to assess the factors associated with different dimensions of the growers’ career.
2) The second purpose of this study is to provide complementary data on similar surveys that will be launched in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Australia and New Zealand . This comparative analysis will be among the first of its kind.

PROCEDURES
If you volunteer to participate in this study, you will be asked a series of questions about your cannabis growing. These include questions about your: personal characteristics, grow operation characteristics, career transitions, and social network. The survey will probably take about 20 minutes to finish.

POTENTIAL RISKS AND DISCOMFORTS
This survey is anonymous. No identifying information will be collected. If any personal identifiers are given, they will not be retained in the data. Survey data will be kept in a secure location, under lock and key. Although the survey is anonymous, some potential risks and discomforts may occur:
1.You will be asked questions pertaining to your participation in cannabis cultivation and other illegal activities. This may bring about internal shame and or guilt.
2.Answering questions regarding your illegal activity may create some discomfort and worry.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS TO SUBJECTS AND/OR TO SOCIETY
We anticipate that you will enjoy the opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise with us. You will also add considerable knowledge to the research literature on cannabis cultivation. If you have any questions or concerns about the research, please feel free to contact Dr. Aili Malm, Principal Investigator at [email protected].

RIGHTS OF RESEARCH SUBJECTS
You may withdraw your consent at any time and discontinue participation without penalty. You are not waiving any legal claims, rights, or remedies because of your participation in this research study. If you have questions regarding your rights as a research subject, contact the Office of University Research, CSU Long Beach, 1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90840; Telephone: (562) 985-5314 or email to [email protected].

By clicking on the Next Page button below, I confirm that:
-I have been informed about the procedure and understand the purposes of the study.
- I have been given the opportunity to ask questions relating to this study.
- I understand that I can (1) skip any question and (2) drop out of the study at any time without prejudice by closing my browser.
-I understand that no identifying information will be collected.
-I am at least 18 years of age.
- I have printed out a copy of this page for my own reference.

Please complete this questionnaire only once. Answer each question carefully and honestly.
Approved from March 23, 2012 to March 22, 2013 by the CSULB IRB

I'm far from paranoid! I did the survey, just because they say they don't track the Ip how do you know they aren't? I just didn't care if they tracked mine! I wanted to check it out because I didn't think it was any good (and still don't). Yes I am in a legal state with a card (a card that would actually hold up in cali court, not just because I cant sleep). My Local PD has been through my place, made sure I was legal and left! Have you taken the survey?

That's an excellent question, and I completely understand why you might be concerned. We plan on using the data to learn more about cannabis cultivation in general. There's a lot of research about cannabis use, but very little on cannabis cultivation. As I'm sure you are aware, there is a popular conception that cannabis cultivation is harmful to society. Our colleagues in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia have completed very similar surveys that challenge this assumption. We, my colleagues in Canada and I, want to compare North American growers to European growers. If you are interested, our book World Wide Weed, describes the research we do very well. You can get a feel for what's in the book by visiting this site:

I did the survey, I still don't see how it could be helpful. it was asking a lot about selling and networking, not much about cultivation very few questions about legit work, but lots about profits and distribution. You say there is a popular conception that cannabis cultivation is harmful to society, True enough but doesn't that conception go hand in hand with marijuana users not just growers? My local PD don't mind the growers as long as they don't steal power and are up to state law. It seems to me that this popular conception is based upon the fact they may be supplying other users and or dealing with other drugs.
I'll be back in a few min. checking the other link to find out more about your study.

It's a Google books link. Google books removes certain pages so that it doesn't infringe copyright. If all of the pages were included, there would be no reason to buy the book and the publisher would make no money. In other words, the authors had no say in which pages were included and which weren't.

Ouch. 84 dollars for a book? doesn't seem they really want to sell a copy... The fact that these sections are even in the book make it look even worse!

As I read through the context of that book it makes it look even worse! Please explain a co-offending network. you seem to have data from all over the world, how many plants were from california than other places. and even studied biological control of marijuana!
