A Great Idea but Will it Work?? Feedback Appreciated!

So currently on my second grow (closet) with a 400w hps and some cfl lights in soil and space is certainly an issue. First grow was 2 N.L. plants and that was such a hassle to deal with I decided 1 plant from now on.

But I feel that I am wasting light (energy) using a 400 on 1 plant (even though ballast is dim-able, I can't deprive my baby of extra light either). Then an epiphany!

And this is my question:
What if I ran an autoflower and a photoperiod plant simultaneously from seed?
Once the autoflower finishes, switch the lights to 12/12 and flower the photo plant. Thus, minimizing waste, maximizing closet space, and harvesting more times per year if I can sustain the system.
...in theory, I love it!! Do y'all?

Running a single plant is the way to go in my book. Under a 400 watter one plant can produce almost 500g. I would go hydro though, its a lot easier to control your medium and if you want quantity control is key.

I have set up a simple tray system meant for closets that consistenly produces 400-430g from a single light and plant.

Thats great yield. I was always under the impression that indoor dry weight was usually at best 1g per watt in premo conditions, so you are killing it at like 1.2! kudos post 1 picture of that if you'd like. Interested in checking it out

Soil is where I am at right now though. I would only think of hydro if I had more room to work with. Not a fan of the idea of power outages killing my plants off. Too many of those a year to take the chance. Last year we had no power for 2.5 days straight at one point. no fun

hmm never heard 1 gram per watt but thats cool if true. but i doubt it :/

your not going to waste any light man, the more the better. you cant over light a plant. the more light the bigger your buds and yield.

No doubt, never have too much light, but I have "extra" light as the entire closet is lit. I also have the space to be able to veg a plant as well as flower. Just too tight to have two fully matured plants flowering simultaneously. This is also my only grow space. Trying to be creative with what I got to work with and increase number of annual harvests

your saying you dont want the rest of the closet lit by your lights? get a roll of mylar and build some false walls. stuffs pretty cheap on amazon. hope i understood that right.
why dont you try 12-12 from a seed? thats what im doing now. plants finish in like 70 days netting 1-3 oz per plant under a 400 watt hps. you can harvest like 4-6 times a year this way lol

no interest in mylar or sectioning off. just want to use my space to it's max potential. light filling empty space I just want to put a plant in. I have considered 12-12 from seedbut I am a fan of longer veg periods

well being a fan of longer grow periods kind of goes against you wanting more harvests a year dont ya think?

just did this, it works nice. Just know that you will only get around 1 ounce per autoflower plant. Ive heard of better yeilds but from my experience the best i can do from one autoflower is a little more than an ounce. Its nice to have an early harvest though.

maximum results bro, longer veg=more weed. am I going to get 3-4 more harvests a year shortening my veg by 2 or 3 weeks? nope
does anyone think 6 week veg is excessive? If you can't have too much light, you definitely can't have too long of a veg period as long as you provide the plant the resources to continue growing

Any advice on it? I have 2 auto freebies which is I guess how I came up with it. Never put thought into auto's just on the little i read on them (which now I realize isn't that much) because I figured the yields we're smaller, idk about the product they can provide. I guess i just dont know shit about autos man...time to start reading up

yes it is a good idea... in fact, some people do this to have some "snacks" so to speak before the main course... ;)

and that way they'll have something to smoke in between while they wait for their photoperiods to finish flowering... ;)

Never bad thing to have a little extra on hand! I'm almost sold...unless I take my hand at revegging this blue widow. I'm not a fan of clones unless passing on a strain to someone else to grow, but this is a gnarly pheno I have and I'd hate to just chop her and let that be that.

if you want to grow 1 plant and maximize space used look into Scrog, i had the same problem of not enough space foe two plants flowering,
im growing 1 plant scrog in a 1.5x1.5foot closet 250w hps soil

i forgot your only doing one plant! 12/12 from seed wouldnt be a good idea with one plant IMO. i do it perpetually where ive got different ages of plants and enough of them to allow me to harvest a plant every week. hows that for more harvest times? i got 52 of them lol

thought of scrog, there's such a wealth of info and technique, I guess I'm just trying to stay simple as although permitted to grow in this space, i do not own the space i grow in. therefore, hydro, scrog, and things that just look complicated would not work for me. Super simple! Thinking of revegging though. Its caught my attention for sure

Well sounds like a lot of trimming! wish i had that space

scrog isnt as hard and complicated as what youd think lad, im doing my first scrog now and i thought itd be hard but its quite easy if you do enough research and all you need is screen, and theres heaps of info on making your own or materials you can use, i would highly recomened scrogging, my next few grows will be scrog for sure

lol well as far as bud trimming yes but you always have a nice supply on hand for yourself and even some friends. all my plants are in a 2 foot by 4 foot space, you dont have that kind of room?

as far as scrog goes its pretty simple. basicly just running a net over your plants and pulling the plants colas through different holes in the net to provide and hold more surface area for light to penetrate and making more bud

You will be lucky to get a 1/4 of one auto and some 'autos' still need 12/12 to finish.

I'd either throw the autos in the trash...lol...or put em outside...auto indoor is pointless indeed...JMHO
