I just purchaed a digital thermometer, it has a long white wire with a sensor at the end. It lists both an indoor and outdoor temp. i have the entire unit in the box.....which temp should i be looking at here?

Typically the probe would be put outside and the inside would just be on the base unit.

So unless you've managed to place that probe somehow strategic for getting a different reading, it shouldn't really matter which.

actually they are different. the probe is designed to sit somewhere near your plant canopy so that you can get an accurate reading on the temperature. that is where you should worry about temps the most. lots of times temps in your room will be 5-10 degrees cooler than they are under your lights. so 80 in your room may be ok but if it's 90 on your plant canopy then you are harming them. try and stick or hang the probe near the tops of your plants and then set the thermometer to outdoor.

I will keep the probe near the canopy, however both the display part of the unit and the probe will both be within the box......what I am saying is neither part will be OUTSIDE......but if i understand correctly the temp that is listed as OUTSIDE is what the probe is reading, and what is INSIDE is what the digital display part is reading? correct?

you got it. in your situation there is probably no difference but for guys in rooms and stuff it helps to have the probe.
