Switching lights mid-grow HPS to LED

Hi,

I have 2 bagseed plants growing DWC. I started them from 12/12 seed, however, they disregarded that and vegged for 3 weeks anyways, they are now 5 weeks into flower and both are sativas.

I switched the 400 watt hps for a Haight Solid State PF-400 during the 4th week of flowering. The HSS claims to replace a 400 watt HPS, however, to minimize the stress of the change I also added 92 watts of CFL.

My question is, do I have anything to watch out for or worry about because of the change I have made?

No offense intended, but why are you making that switch. I did the same thing because I needed to lower my power bill, because I had to run a seperate ac. Unfortunately I also lowered my yield by about 60%. I will definately be running my HPS in winter from now on.

The DIY ballast I got from craigslist didn't invoke any confidence. I also found the LED on ebay brand new for half the price of it from the retailer.

My buds on one plant are huge already, no budswell yet, but the pistils are so thick and immense. Do you think it will still reduce my yields by 60% or do you think they are mature enough for it only to slightly affect my yields.

I really wanted my LED's to rock, but they just don't produce the huge buds my hps did. I switched from the cheapest no name 400 watt hps you can find to 2 Blackstar 180 watt flowering LED's. The light only penetrates about halfway down my plants. I am just so disappointed. I wish someone had been honest with me before I laid out so much cash for lights that really don't perform very well at all. Oh yeah, I could easily grow 9 plants under the hps. I am having a hard time getting 3 to grow under the LED's. The light from the LED's basically just shoots straight down, it doesn't spread out like hps lamps do, so the area you light is the size of the LED lamp.

Unfortunately, there's no LED that can make the intensity levels of HPS. I've been debunking LED grow lights for yonks. They just don't do what the sellers claim. The technology may get there someday but it's not there yet.

Well, I wish you had told me. I felt so special when I ordered those expensive worthless things. Well not worthless, but definately inferior.

Research them from real world users and you would have saved your money. The retailers selling them will tell you and contort the information anyway to get you to spend, always research people who are not making a profit off your ignorance (no offense).

If you are really like thinking outside the box the same principle applies to 95% of the products on the market in MMJ. Promises, yields galore, but bottom line is that they want to make money. Some do work and perform well, but most are fabricated and twisted to look better or promising then they are. Then the retailers just sit back and watch the mindless sheep follow people believing in the hype just on words alone, no real world facts.

I did quite a bit of research. I watched side by side grows on youtube and read people rave about them in forums. The problem with the youtube videos is that the ones I saw with LED's doing great there was only 1 plant being grown and then you hear people even here on this forum saying that they rock. On the bright side, lol, my power bill did go down about $75 a month. Of course I'm producing $400 a month less weed and am currently out due to that fact and the next batch isn't due for a month.

I don't have the time nor energy to waste on such stoushes. Those who have sunk several hundred bucks into them don't want to hear that they've blown their dough.

When LED lighting comes to the point that it's useful for growing plants, I'll be first in the queue. Until then, I'll be using lights that work.

I have a 90 watt UFO I use for the seedlings and vegging. I'm thinking about using the LED's I just took down to light an intermediate flowering chamber for when the plants are smaller and it is easier for those LEDs to light the area.
