Which part of Cali. to move to? please help!

whats up guys? sorry in advanced if this is too long or boring but trying to get some info!!

i plan on moving to Cali. in late October, mid November. wanted to know what area is a nice place for a 23year old single male to move to, i would like to be an hour or 2 away from a beach rather then 6+ hours away. (lol i was told "hey its CALI!! anywhere is nice) but was considering Modesto, Adelanto, or Riverside.(i know these places may not have beaches close to them but this is why im asking and searching for answers)
i believe i read something online saying you cant live in one county and go into a different county to get a medical marijuana card? any info on that.

Any pros or cons as to living in one of these cities, (heard Modesto gets really hot and humid) or do you guys have a better recommendation? I don't want to make the mistake i made when moving from CT to FL and moved into a really really boring small town where there is nothing to do, so trying to get personal opinions from fellow RIU Cali members!!
Oakland was on my mind too but read its really expensive but more 420 friendly (cops wise) then other cities...any other cities 420 friendly (cops wise)? (i will be following the city limit for growing "X" amount of plants mature/immature pending which city i move too but rather have a place where cops are a little bit more relaxed and wont hassle you as much)

(i would also like to grow outdoors, so an area where its legal to grow outdoors would be helpful, i searched and found Adelanto is a no-no for outdoor growing, only upside is the house prices i found help me save a couples of more 1000s then planned but willing to sacrifice if i can find a nice place where i can grow outdoors and still within my price range

ps i plan on making this a permanent move, and rather have a house in an area where i can have a family down the road. like the outskirts of a major city maybe?

Well I live in riverside county...not a whole lot to do in my area but riverside is pretty decent and temecula is pretty decent. Always can drive to LA if you get bored. I'm actually thinking about moving to the bay area when this lease is up. I actually just did the same thing you are doing (cross country move) about 2 weeks ago and I can tell you that cali is pretty awesome. One of the few places you can drive a few hours in each direction and have beach, snow capped mtns or dessert depending on your mood. I'd personally say make sure you fly out and check out the area before you move though. The city I'm in now is almost more hickish then where i moved from in NC and there isnt much to do around here.

My suggestion is that you move here, anywhere really and just rent. There's no way for anyone to tell you about here you just have to come and figure it out for yourself. What you consider hot may not be what i consider hot etc.... So just move out here and travel around visiting different parts of the state.

Personally I think Temecula, and pretty much all the Inland Empire sucks. If money isn't an object I prefer the beach areas, particularly south OC beaches. Inland, Pasadena is a nice town with lots of stuff to do. I was born and rained in So Cal, and I have lived in a number of places from Huntington Beach, to Downtown LA, San Diego and everywhere in between. Of all the places I have lived in So Cal, I liked Pasadena, and Huntington Beach the best.

i know what you mean about hickish, i sometimes get dirty looks where i live at here in FL (i have a hispanic backround) but i dont mind it lol. i wanted to fly out there and check it out but i didnt want to go thru the hassle of finding a place to stay then rent a car and drive around looking at homes. im trying to leave this to luck and pretty much "go where the wind takes me" itll be my first big move and a small step for my traveling plans. (others may not agree this is smart but this is how i want to approach it, hey you only live once and you learn from mistakes so why be afraid to make them?) thanks for the heads up on riverside though below you alot of ppl are say Modesto but i will still be looking. i mainly wanted to go to riverside because of this website http://thc-foundation.com/california/ and wanted to be close to the clinic

thank you for the input. i was just trying to gather info on what other people think about where they live and if they would recommend their city for someone to move to. but what you say is true about what i consider hot may not be what you (or they as in anyone else) considers hot. but if you give me a temp of say 130f then yeah ill have to say thats pretty hot! lmao

What's your price range? In general for SD, as you go east it gets hickish, dry, hot, and ugly. People in SD will call it "East County". The beaches are all pretty cool places to live with a few exceptions here at there. Ocean Beach is great and not too expensive. Hillcrest is the hip and happening gay area, kinda like a west hollywood. Downtown is eh, and the gaslamp area is cool with an urban revival thing happening. Basically as long as you're not in East county, next to the border, or in Imperial Beach it's cool. SD is less spread out than most of So Cal, and they have decent public transpo. They are also kinda insular... they get all pissy when you call them "L.A." or just "So Cal".

Edit: and because I am not really a mean guy I should probably be honest and say that Modesto is the armpit of California. (Pretty much all of the central valley sucks ass in the summer) It's just that since the 1840's we've had an influx of people moving here, then talking crap about California. And So Cal is really getting crowded. Oh well, I am planning on moving to Oregon or Washington eventually myself. Maybe I can find a southbound Oregonian and just call it an even trade. Seriously though, if you're going to make a big move at least move to a cool spot.

i agree with if making a big move make it to a cool spot. i have between 150-200k to play with for a house, 230 would be my max, but honestly would like to get something under 180k just because i found some houses online for under 120k that are 3bedroom 2 bath and actually pretty good considering the price (gotta love foreclosures) as far as location, i personally dont know if the house is located in a good neighborhood or bad one, if theres alot of crime in the area, hickish, climate wise during the seasons, etc hence why im turning to you guys for the your 2cents on the area. i mean i can google whats a good city to move to in cali (which i did) but it will only give me the pros rather then the cons and if the cons outweigh the pros then i lose.
only concern about being close to the beach is flooding, and earthquakes. in CT the worse flood i ever had was up to my tires in a acura integra, no earthquakes, here in FL in june/july will be my first "hurricane season" experience, so also an area that isnt too affected by natural disasters, lol dont want to sound like a bit*h but dont want to buy a house then bam 2012 happen lol

edit : appricate the honesty about modesto, i saw on a map http://www.beachcalifornia.com/cities.html how it is close to the "deserts" and how it probably would be more hot then i would like it during summer, ill look into ocean beach. hows shasta county? was thinking about redding.

I am from Ventura Cali and its not to bad right by the beach but way cheaper and more laid back then la and only about 45 mins from la. Or u could go to Santa Barbra its pretty chill. IV Is crackin. Lots of med clubs in these areas as well. But I agree so cal kinda sucks but only if u lived there your whole life thats why I moved to nor cal and then Oregon haha hopefully il eventually make my way up to Canada.
