HOMEMADE CO2 system....

so im following the recipe 3/4 cup sugar to 6 cup water and 1 Tspoon yeast..

ill be using a 1 gallon jug with hoses coming from the lid and going INTO THE SOIL..

when i have co2 in the tent il run a closed sytem threw my light so that there is only air coming into the tent not leaving, or would i want my intake fan off to?

My MAIN question is how much temp is the co2 gonna generate, and will it be worth it? also is my idead for the tube into the root going to poison the plant?

Kind of impossible to have air come into your tent and not have air also leaving your tent. I would exhaust as usual and just direct the CO2 directly at the canopy either via air tubing or a fan. It can be worth is if done properly.

With a yeast system and a gallon jug... you won't see anything much of a temp rise. Directing the hose for the CO2. Isn't going to hurt your plant as long as you system isn't spitting up any of your mix onto your plant.

I use a gallon milk jug, half full of water, one lb of sugar, and three or four packs of highly active dry yeast, and if anything, it will lower temps, or they will just stay the same... My space is 4' X 2', and I have noticed crazy results by using this method over my last couple of grows in the same space, with all the same lighting and conditions, and strains... re mix the contents in it every week, and u will thank yourself come harvest day... I dont use hoses or tubing either... I just sit it in the middle of my garden, and let the light, but constant airflow do the work of distributing the 4.35 sq ft of CO2 it produces, for me...

My problem is with the exhuast hooked up to pull air from outside my temps rise, are 90* degree temps good with co2.Also where should I be taking temps from right now I do plant surface,which is 91.. Top which is 86 and under the canopy which is 82.Also my humidity is 20 with lights on and 70 without I have multiple gallon jugs of water in their to bring humidity upMy setup is a 1000w air cooled hood in a 4x8x7 tent. A 400 cfm exhaust and a 240 cfm intake with 1 passive intake with a fan pushing air in..

I thought roots use O2 and leaves use the CO2?

Why would u exhaust your CO2 into the soil? The roote live on OXYGEN, and the foliage lives on CO2... You would do best to just take that tubing and tie down branches with it, instead of directing the CO2 anywhere... If itz in a tent, just leave the jug open and change the ingerdients every four-five days, and u will be super straight, man... Itll get everywhere it needs to... JUST noticed this today... It DOES NOT need to be going into your soil AT ALL!!!

Whew, I read the first post and started panicking as no one was catching that... yeah, you use air pumps and air rocks in DWC/Hydro to put air/O2 into your rootzone... your roots uptake oxygen and the foliage takes in CO2, Chlorophyll uses CO2 combined with nutrients and light to create sugars for growth and the byproduct O2 during photosynthesis. Place your CO2 jug up high or have your tubes direct the CO2 flow at the top of your canopy, as CO2 is heavier than the surrounding air and will fall to the ground and pool, so as it comes out of your tube/nozzle it will fall over the foliage and get the most surface contact, then if you have a small fan pointing upward at the bottom of your tent it will help to circulate it and keep it in the "zone". Picture dry ice, in a container of some kind, as it evaporates and spills over the edge the "fog" falls over the table edge and collects on the floor... cuz that's CO2, more vizible cuz its much colder right after it evaporates (I think thats why its more visible as the fog, either that or its concentration) either way picture that vapor coming out of your jug, so have it up high so the CO2 can fall over your foliage.

the CO2 itself is not visible at all. That is the water vapor condensing on the sublimated CO2 gas and causing light to scatter. Just a fun fact. CO2 is completely invisible with no scent or taste.

Oh and to the Original Poster, do not direct the CO2 toward your roots. Just get an opaque jug so that light cannot penetrate, and put some yeast, sugar, and water in there, poke a little hole at the top, and let it do work. Jug should be opaque and kept in a somewhat cool (room temp) as to get the max amount of CO2 from said jug.

also is the sugar / yeast idea the cheapest idea?

also im going to be using this once i start flower anything wrong there?

This is absolutely correct... Which is why some folks use a 50/50 mixed solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide, like u find at drug stores, to oxygenate their roots... BUT, it also kills beneficial bacteria in the soil, as well as ones that aren't beneficial, but, I suggest it as an occaisional oxygenation for the roots... CO2 is used by the leaves and such, ABOVE the soil, and once used, the plants emit oxygen, which we use...

I would definately NOT put a jug of anything above or on top of a light fixture... I just sit mine inside the garden, and the wind from my fans is plenty enough powerful to spread to CO2... This has been the cheapest idea Ive come across...1lb of sugar is only a buck or two, and three packets of yeast is the same, and yer talkin $4 or so per week for supp CO2... The results will definately be worth the expense...

CO2 does not increase temps either... If anything it will help decrease them... Please dont put jugs of water on yer lights... They will burn thru, water and stuff will pour out on yer fixture, and u will have ruined yer light and yer lamp, as it will explode when the liquid hits it... This could be very disastrous... Sit the jug on the ground, or at canopy level, and this will be just fine... Dont use your electrical equipment for props or stands...especially for liquid in plastic jugs... Just common sense here...
