Economically, I fear they suffer from the same globalizing decadence as the rest of the developed world. But in terms of temperament and social culture, I felt much more at ease in the places I did go than here home in the 'Stan. I wonder what would happen if someone scored a Tim Hortons franchise somewhere along the 99. cn

Michigan is full of Tim Horton's. I rarely go a day without one.
I just can't get over the fact that the public buildings have to keep the doors unlocked when it's too hot or too cold so the homeless people have shelter. That one thing alone just boggles my mind. You toss in the right to see a doctor when you're ill without being bankrupt for life...man, it feels like a really people friendly place. Amazing to me.
