i think you're thinking of a hygrometer, and no you don't need one for this. it does take a little bit of knowledge of where your buds are at as far as moisture. You want to do it just before they are crispy. Obviously you don't want them to crumble. And when you're harvesting multiple pounds, curing in mason jars..... burping is work man. When you have 50 jars to burp three times a day and you find out you put it in too early and have to dump it all out, it gets pretty gnarly. But if your just growing a couple plants in your closet, it's not such a big deal. But yeah give it a try if you see fit, but if your method works for you and you're completley happy with the results, why change anything up?i understand that if you put it in at the perfect time..and i mean perfect time...that you can float the moisture at what is it 55%.. or was it 65%..and it will stay there and cure without intervention but this requires a hydrometer and i also believe you need air exchange every once in a while maybe im wrong but i feel it helps. that said i dont think my way is the only way but its the best way ive found with what i have to work with and ill tell ya what the finished product is perfect and i dont see it as "work" anyway so doesnt bother me...i agree you can dry for the full 5-7 days and you will only need to jar for a week but thats harder to approximate and id rather tell the guy hey jar it early and watch it well then tell him to wait until its just right because once the pot is past a certain percentage of moisture you can no longer cure it!! dont want the guy to ruin his crop better safe than sorry imo...anyway you can smoke it after a week or so this way too...i agree that way is likely more efficient but quality i think is close to the same and this is a bit easier for someone who doesnt have as much experience...if i perfected the "feel" of when bud is perfectly dry and will hit the proper moisture content if left in the jars i would likely use your method but havent gotten that far yet lol
definatley but that's what it's all about, as soon as you become stagnant not trying new things, not trying to improve on what you already know, things start to slack and problems start to arise. I got way over confident on my gardening ability not too long ago and completely ruined what was shaping up to be a magnificent grow. At least you realize there are other ways to do things, which in this field of work is GOLDEN. And i don't mean to say that you should only cure for a week. Your buds should be delightfully smokeable by then, but a little longer in the glass never hurt anything.ya i can see how curing lbs could get tedious getting it out of the jars over and over and basing ur day around it but u nailed it i usually just do the closet thing maybe a lb at a time on the heavy side so ya this works fine but gotta strive for perfection and your the second person who has said something in a post about only curing for a week or so and drying a bit longer(the first being subcool) so i think ill try to learn to find that perfect window but all the while being extra careful not to over dry..might take a run or two
well i think you could argue that flavor complexities present themselves after a longer cure. i was recently invited to partake in a tasting of herbs that had been stored for 2 years! Now that might sound a bit long, but he finished the cure perfectly, then stored his herb in glass in a dark cool wine cabinet for a couple years. Let me tell you that if i had the patience, i would be storing everything for years bro! Absolutley amazing smokeoh ya for sure i knew what ya meant its ready in a week but not totally finished doing magic inside lol...i leave it in the jars longer than i have to anyway just because simply why not
